I keep telling myself that today was a slow day because of Valentine's day. Not that everyone was celebrating it but just to be nice maybe they didn't want to ruin anyone's celebrations. Like who wants to send out a bunch of rejections on a day when so many people may already be feeling lonely, rejected or whatever? Just my theory and it makes me feel better thinking that way lol

Same here. I'm disappointed, but not devastated. I'll try again after I get my MA if I don't get into Rutgers (doubt it).

wmnshlthsoc reacted to tarrman in Campus Visit Day - Before Admission?
Rice University ECE did this (I attended this past weekend). It was an all-expense paid invitation, so I had initially assumed that I was going to be admitted and they were just slow with the official processing. During my visit, the grad students said that about 70% of those invited to the weekend are admitted, and the graduate committee would use the weekend to gauge whether or not Rice would be a good fit for each student. We spent the day meeting with various professors in our field of interest in small groups of 3-5 students. The graduate student hosts said these meetings served as "interviews", but we were only asked what our interests were and were given opportunities to ask about the campus, research, etc.

If you're interested in the school, I recommend attending. What I gathered from my experience is that missing the weekend tells the school you aren't very serious about attending (unless you have a legitimate reason for missing it).

I was invited to a visit weekend... Great opportunity to meet with faculty and current students. As well as get a feel for the culture of the campus and the city you may live it. Don't sweat it, it's one step closer right? Good luck!

Ditto, and I wish Cornell would just send out rejections already as well. I'm ready for this whole process to be over--two months of obsession is more than enough.

Someone was waitlisted for BU today? That makes me so nervous. Has anyone else heard from them?

I did - funding does exist! idk how many full offers went out, since I haven't seen too many acceptances go up in the results, but I know that there are offers floating around and you've still got a shot if you're on the waitlist.

Oops. Is there a protocol for butt-dialing your POI, thinking they called you, calling them back without realizing who it was, asking whether they called you earlier, hanging up sort of brusquely thinking it was a wrong number, and then going through your call history and realizing what happened?

    No?

This is why I don't call, so I can pretend that I am on some mysterious unofficial wait list.

I would just be honest with them.  Say you are thrilled about the acceptance and would love to visit but that you are in a wedding on that Saturday.  Ask if you could come just for Thursday-Friday.  They are people too and will understand.  And you are already admitted, so they will probably be willing to work with you.  It's not like you're blowing it off - you have a prior commitment... an important one obviously!

I'm not but you can look it up in the "Results Search" section (top of the page between Chat and Submit Results tabs). You can search by school and programs. Good luck!

Oh--thanks for your help! I thought that the results search just displayed results for this round of applications, but obviously I was wrong. Now I can at least have an idea of what to expect. Thank you!

They should have added the line: "Please ensure funding is arranged by the time I arrive."

Here's a form letter we can use if/when we are rejected from our top choice:
