First of all I'm curious. Second of all, I assume things might still change until June, because I heard that York still has a waitlist after me. I only accepted York because it is the only acceptance I currently have and I didn't wanna pass the deadline while waiting for Duke.

Any waitlists who heard back from Duke?

I guess I'd find it extremely sincere. If couple of people are gonna see each other all through the years and be a part of the same community, I think I'd be nice to be welcomed by the other parts.

chrisscoff, I guess it's one of the elements but it really depends on the school.For example I heard that faculty at Cornell really cares about extra curricular activities (but I was still rejected). I have a cv full of various extra curricular activities and it didn't get me far. I don't know if this is because they mean nothing to the committees or it's just because of the other things I lack.

Apart from all the other points, no funding doesn't mean you were not good enough. It means that most of the schools run on a strict budget, the world economy is in a general state of crisis and especially international applicants cost more. You're soo wrong while you make assumptions about people's merits by simply taking their acceptance (or non-acceptance, for that matter) status. One of my friends was rejected by all the middle rank schools she applied (7 ones, and the only one she was accepted was without funding) and got accepted only to Yale. What would you say about that?

Agreed. As I said above, I got waitlisted just today. I received an e-mail saying that there's been a decision on my application and I should go check it out on the website. You could have been waitlisted or soon to be rejected. I'm looking forward to hear from them for sure!

Hey guys, I'm really glad that someone opened a topic like this, because this is exactly my situation. I applied to a great number of schools, because I wanted to make sure that I'd definitely get in somewhere. But I guess the schools I chose were beyond my reach, though I'm the top student at the best university in my country (I applied to the phd programs in sociology at Duke, Columbia, Princeton, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Rutgers, UPenn, Brown, Yale, NYU, Cornell, UMass, Boston, Northeastern, York and McGill). Apart from Princeton and Brown, which told me I was rejected, I haven't heard from any other university that I applied. You all know that Rutgers called people out for interviews and I guess started to send out acceptances, NYU even notified waitlists, there seems to be couple of acceptances to Yale, UMass and UPenn, if I'm not mistaken. I don't really know how I should interpret this silence. I tend to be pessimistic and accept them as possible rejects, but people tell me that I simply can not deduce anything from the situation unless there's a statement for sure. Well, I just wanted to share and see what you'd think about my situation. Congrats to all that are accepted and patience to all who're the same with me.
