  1. Well, guess technically I'm no longer going to be studying sociology, but I'm going to the one poli-sci program I applied for at University of Toronto. I'd especially love to hear from anyone entering the Soc department there.
  2. I was one of the 'international' acceptances in the results survey, but I am Canadian (unfortunately no 'domestic' option in the survey. I'm also pretty certain that the other 'international' is also Canadian. for what its worth I've turned down my offer, the deadline was March 22
  3. Is this a big issue in Grad schools? While diversity is certainly important I would hesitate to use categories of 'race' to define people, and would be surprised if solidarity in academia was substantially influenced by such categories. I'm not from a visible minority group though, and have only studied at very diverse universities in the UK and Canada so perhaps I'm ignorant and would be curious to hear more on the subject.
  4. This is how I feel. York Soc seems amazing in a lot of ways (and they've been the most welcoming so far!) but not sure if I can really turn down U of T and McGill to go there.
  5. Thank you for finally rejecting me Stanford! Now, if you'd just tell Columbia to do the same.... Saw that someone got a Stanford accept today as well - congrats! I assume you already had an interview, but it had seemed like the acceptances were finished by now.
  6. Does anyone know if Canadian funding packages are negotiable? It seems like the offers are standardized unless you've been nominated for an award. However, the $15k minimum to go to Toronto seems rather low compared to $16k offered by McGill to live in Montreal which is far cheaper.
  7. I've also noticed that York seems to do fairly well placing in Ontario as well, and wondering how well it compares to U of T and McGill in terms of placement...The first 2 graduate so many students that its hard to compare placement rates. Do people from these schools ever end up teaching in the US?
  8. Offer was 15k + tuition, based on TAship (not sure the workload). Seems to be the same standard offer as last year and others this year. A bit thin considering cost of living in TO compared to slightly higher offer for McGill. McGill's guaranteed funding includes TA and RA though, so if you can manage to get an RA job at Toronto than it would be a decent deal. All this depends on expected workload for these positions though....
  9. They probably include the $8k tuition, bringing it to $23k annual. For what it worth McGill (sociology) does the same, giving an average of $20k over 4 years, minus tuition = ~$16k I'm waiting to hear back from York (Soc), seems like the offer might be one i need to consider, although McGill and Toronto's offer deadlines are March 15th and 21st so not sure I'll get a response by then. Anyone who want to chat about these programs feel free to drop me a PM.
  10. wow, that seem pretty good - what responsibilities does that include? U of T offered $15k + tuition for 5 yrs, based on TAing. RA work is paid on top of this, but not sure how easy it is to get.
  11. Accepted by email to Poli Sci (comparative). Anyone else who's accepted and considering attending please PM me and we can chat about research interests.
