  1. One more rejection. This whole process is hell.

  2. I feel ya' dude. I think most of us do, at this point. Try to hang in there.
  3. Interestingly, if you google search "Sound of the Beast" with the artist's name, you get to the right song. Always a bonus. I think if it was just the audio, it might be a bit much, but with the video it works really well. Maybe because on some level there's the implicit acknowledgement of "Well, yeah, THOSE cops are assholes." Looking forward to the didactic works.
  4. You'd think email would be simpler. Not that there isn't something to be said for physical mail, but really. *sigh*
  5. Wow. I adore this. Is the rest of his stuff just as wonderful?
  6. Interestingly, my doubts are related more to what's going on with one of my classes this semester than with PhD applications. Granted, the fact that I'm sitting on one rejection and a whole lot of empty doesn't help, but I have a plan B that I'm okay with. It's this damn Plato class that's killing me. Nothing like a poor fit with a course that fulfills a degree requirement to make you want to bin your whole life.
  7. I'll either be moving or working/looking for work. It all depends how the applications go.
  8. I'm in the last semester of my Master's program, and I'm about ready to bin it all and spend the rest of my life making coffee and writting bad poems about why philosophy in general and Plato in particular should die in a fire. I'm in Classics, hoping to get into a classical archaeology program. I'm focused on Rome and Latin. My Greek is still pretty terrible (dyslexia and the greek alphabet really don't get along, but I keep plugging away because I'm insane). I hate philosophy with the fire of a thousand suns, but I'm stuck with a seminar on Plato because there's only been one seminar offered while I've been here that was Latin/Rome. This is my third year. So that's six semesters, one seminar available per semester. We've had 1 Latin, 1 Proseminar (heavily Greek focused, by the way), and 4 or 5 Greek seminars. I need two seminars for the degree. Last semester it was Iambic Poetry (might have been better, but we were supposed to get Latin/Roman this semester, so I passed). The semester before that it was Greek Pederasty (as an institution and in literature, but yeah, not for me). This class makes me hate my life. I avoid all things school related, probably because they remind me that I have stupid shit to do for this damn class. I'm hoping that some good news will come in soon just so that I have a reason to knuckle down and get some shit done. Because right now, NOTHING is happening.
  9. Upon my rejection from Cornell. "You didn't want to deal with New York winters anyway." *sigh*
  10. Fuckballs. That's a fail of epic proportions. That should involve much raising of hell and the use of voodoo. Seriously. Stulti incendendi sunt.
  11. I would suggest emailing your POI and letting her know that you're accepting the offer at school A. You can always frame it in terms of leaving school B room to make offers to people more likely to accept, or something along those lines.
  12. I'm still waiting on Brown (Joukowsky), UT Austin (classical archaeology), Florida State (classical archaeology), Johns Hopins (interdepartmental art & archaeology), and Boston University (archaeology program). I'm guessing some of these are silent rejections, but at least two (Brown and Johns Hopkins) have no results on the survey at all. You'd think somebody would have heard from the Joukowsky program by now (and posted it, at least). Boston's Archaeology program doesn't usually show up until early March from the looks of it, so I'm not freaking out on that one yet. But doesn't it seem like things are damn quiet for this point in the application season?
  13. Holy fuckballs! And I thought this process couldn't get any worse ...
  14. It's been strangely quiet this week. Here's hoping that a lot of programs are getting ready to send out a bunch of notices after lunch! Still waiting in limbo. Starting to think this was all a horrible, horrible idea.
  15. You are hearby accepted to our graduate program in socially ackward nerdiness. Cogratulations!
  16. It's nerve wracking is what it is. At 1/6 (and a rejection at that), I feel your pain.
  17. What's really disheartening is when you see admits listed, but no waitlist or rejects yet. Some schools seem to opperate on an "accept/interview folk, reject all others later" basis that's really hell. Honestly, I kind of wish I hadn't heard anything at all, instead of one rejection three weeks ago and a whole lot of nothing. It was better when I wasn't expecting to hear from anybody yet.
  18. Best possible thing anyone could say. Ever. Incendendum est!
  19. One can hope. One can hope.
  20. For the Austin admits, any idea when notice hits the "check status" website? Or when they'll finish informing folk of good news? Should I just start checking it constantly, or write it off? Also, congrats. Bastards. (j/k. sort of.)
  21. So, SO, wish I had that option. You have no idea. The real sad thing? If not for this class filling a requirement, I've no idea what I would have taken. There are no real options this semester for what I'm interested in. *sigh* Honestly, if not for doing the TA bit for the intermediate Latin course, there would be NOTHING about this semester that I like.
  22. The waiting is definitely more distracting. By far. I mean, yay for being done with them, but I feel completely drained of any motivation to get anything else done. Especially since I'm saddled with a class I absolutely hate this semester. Bleh. Hopefully good news comes in soon.
  23. Lol. Gotta take the humor where I can find it. Otherwise I think I will go completely batshit.
  24. Well, that's more than a bit unusual. Quite possibly the strangest way to go about things, I would think. Very odd.
  25. Is it my imagination, or does it seem like results are slower than expected this year? Looking back at previous years, it seems like there was more information out there by this point. I wonder how much the changes to the GREs are factoring into this. Or maybe I'm just crazy because I keep hearing nothing. *sigh*
