  1. Yeah me too:( On the positive side, I'm finally able to paint again. Feels good to paint without worry.
  2. Question: So if you get wait-listed, and later become accepted...can you still get decent funding?
  3. Josholas, I sent you a personal message...check your box
  4. As an artist, I think piercings, tattoos and dyed hair are accepted...after all, many of us march to our own drum beat...I say rock it proud.
  5. I sooo have to agree with both of you. My concerns exactly. It is not really cheap/...little over 6 grand per semester...plus travel and room and board during the residency. In addition, it looks like there is very...and I mean VERY, little funds to help pay. The first thing they mention is completing the Federal financial aid form to request loan money. Plus, you learn so much from our peers and daily active discussion. Thanks for replying
  6. Goodard College has a low residency program: MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts - Plainfield, Vermont Residency Completed Application Deadline: June 20, 2012 Semester: July 20 - November 26, 2012 Residency Week: July 20 - 27, 2012 MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts - Port Townsend, Washington Residency Completed Application Deadline: August 21, 2012 Semester: September 21, 2012 - January 28, 2013 Residency Week: September 21-29, 2012 ...but I just submitted a post asking if anyone has experience or knowledge with Goodard.
  7. Anyone know about Goodard and their M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts program? From what I gather they have two options: low residency program in The MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts offers two low-residency site options: http://www.goddard.edu/masterfinearts_interdisciplinaryarts •in the East at Goddard’s historic Plainfield, VT campus •since 2007 in the West at the Port Townsend, WA residency site. They accept applicants up until one month prior to the residency (residency is in late July and is 8 days in summer and 4 days in winter). The programduring the fall and spring is self-directed with periodic check ins. Anyone here have experience or knowledge with the program, or knows of anyone who has? Thanks!
  8. I'm down for that. You're welcome to come to Santa Fe...we have an amazing fine art market especially in Painting, ceramics and jewelry Plus it is blue skies and sunshine 300+ days of the year.
  9. I strongly (yet respectfully) have to disagree. I live in Santa Fe, NM (part of the Rockies) and we have an amazing fine art market...nothing but galleries and many artist retreats. In fact, there is a whole real-estate market here devoted solely for homes with "private studios." Artist from around the world have studios here or permanently reside here. Art collectors, tourist, Native American artist etc...have very successful careers, yet we are not NY, Chicago or LA. Artists get inspiration from many places. Location can greatly influence creativity not to mention impact social/ cultural change. If you want to make a career as an artist, you need to work hard, and gain inspiration from wherever makes you happiest. For some people it is a large metropolitan city...for others, it is exactly the opposite. Many successful artists get inspiration from their environment. For many, this is in the west. Just because a school is not listed in the "top program list" does not mean successful artist do not emerge from them. And just because someone graduates from a top choice school, or resides in a metropolitan area, does not mean they will have a successful career. Hundreds of well-known artists practice or live in mountain states/southwestern states.
  10. University of New Mexico and University of Arizona both have top rated MFA programs especially in printmaking
  11. I really enjoyed viewing your work...everything from your style, use of color, the subject matter...everything. You have a strong use of contrast and depth. I especially liked the dripping of paint in the background...ever so slightly there, a mix of playful expression combined with the realism of the leaves. Not an easy thing to do and it works...it makes sense. Thank you for sharing.
  12. Has anyone heard anything positive from UNM...MFA painting (or otherwise)? I have heard a few received letters last week with not so great news. I haven't heard anything and I called today. I was told my letter went out today and I should receive it by end of week. They wouldn't tell me any news over the phone which worries me. There is always still hope...
  13. A BIG Congrats to YOU! Sounds like a blessed offer. You deserve to celebrate, enjoy the moment.
  14. Thank you for the words of encouragement! Good luck to you! I should have increased my odds by applying to more schools. Again, good luck!
  15. I haven't heard from any of the schools where I applied. Not University of New Mexico, not University of Washington (Seattle) not University of Oregon. MFA painting. no emails, no phone calls to interview, no letters in the mail. I am anxious, especially hearing that UNM sent out letters last week. Website at all 3 schools says the same thing... Awaiting response. My family says, no news is good news... All and all, I am happy I tried and I am glad I went through this process. My first choice is UO, if I do not get in this year, hopefully I will next time. If any of you get into UO for painting and drawing, please let me know. I would love to connect with you.
  16. I appreciated the question...and more importantly, I appreciated this question from a unique "insiders" perspective. Not many people on this forum are from Curious12345's perspective as a current grad student, who had the opportunity to view a selection of upcoming applicants work. I thought the purpose of his question was clear...and a thread of clarifying questions about the selection process appeared. Thank you Curious12345 for the original post. Personally, I had not heard any specifics about the UCSB MFA program. I was also curious about the selection process and it was interesting to hear his feed back. Now...that said, it was not necessary to throw back the harsh language swearing and such. I understood that using the word "dismal" was not a direct reflection on the applicants who did apply (but then I did not apply to UCSB so perhaps i would feel differently had I applied) All and all, your perspective Curious12345 was interesting and your question, a learning opportunity for all of us not informed about your MFA program. Gathering and sharing information is the point of the forum.
  17. I am in love with your work. There are so many amazing pieces I imagine you had difficulty selecting which ones to include for your images. Any school you attend will be lucky to have you! Not to mention, i imagine your work inspires others. Thank you for sharing
  18. Good luck to you both (bwatkins and Josholas)!
  19. Josholas, I was thinking the same thing! I also applied to U of Washington and UO, and still no answer . I think we have to wait till last March for UW too. I wish you much luck! Ebonie
  20. That is good to know...I heard that the program is at the undergrad level. As long as I can take printmaking, I will be happy. I emailed them but I haven't heard back yet. Thanks for the info
  21. Very Impressed! Enjoyed looking at all of it. Thanks for sharing
  22. Here is the link to my site.... I applied to University of Washington, University of Oregon, University of New Mexico and Arizona State all for Painting and Drawing. Ideally I would love to pursue printmaking as well. My work is primarily figurative http://ebonieart.weebly.com/index.html Ebonie
  23. I applied to University of Oregon and University of Washington for MFA in Painting and Drawing. I also applied to Arizona State and University of New Mexico. My top 2 picks are UO and UW, but I am torn between the two. UO is the average 3 year painting and drawing program and UW is a 2 year program. UO has printmaking which I LOVE! UW does not:( but it is 2 years instead of 3! Neither program looks to have much in the figurative style which is my concern. My work is all figure:) Any advice or personal point of view?
