  1. Thanks rontron! I live in Toronto....I don't know about out west, maybe later this week?
  2. got a letter today from SSHRC saying my application has been forwarded (Group A). 246 of 773 were forwarded for candidates not registered in a university. Good luck everyone!
  3. Sure thing, but to be honest, I think it's a lot of luck and the right circumstances. My BA is from U of T, my MSc is from a UK university. I've published a bunch of papers and attended numerous conferences, but none in Anthropology. My GPA is not stellar, but I got straight As in Anthro in my undergraduate and I finished at the top of my class in my Masters (but in another discipline). I met with my profs beforehand, talked about what I wanted to do and it aligned with what they were interested in (particularly where their research was heading). I've learned to not take things too personally, sometimes, it's really not you, if you don't fit, they can't let you in. Good luck!
  4. Yeah I totally agree with this - they're emailing their first choices, and getting a sense if they'll accept. This way they can lock them in early, or release them early. That way in March, they can move down their list. To be honest, it doesn't really matter when you get contacted. It's nice when it's early, but 5 years after your PhD, who remembers these things....
  5. me too, haven't heard anything. But I'm accepted already into my PhD program, so I know there's a least a bit of funding - plus most people don't get it their first year anyway...
  6. I got an email from a prof with acceptance a few weeks ago for the PhD Anthro program at U of T. It's the only school I applied for so happy I got in. Good luck to everyone! Although, I get the sense that luck has nothing to do with it....this is my second time applying, so take that with a grain of salt.
  7. I feel like someone probably addressed this, but for the U of T Anthro program - if you're international and you don't come with funding, you're not getting in. Unfortunately, that's the way it is right now. Sorry. Might be different for different programs, but they're just not giving money to foreign students.
  8. Hi, also I meant to say, if you get SSHRC you're golden! I had a friend who was outright rejected from U of T anthro, until he got SSHRC, and they let him in.
  9. Hi, I applied for the PhD. It was an unofficial from a professor, for socio-cultural. I don't know about SSHRC, I applied as an outsider so I don't expect to hear from them for a while. Good luck. I know someone who heard in March the year before, so like others have said, it's in waves. I think the unofficial email is also to get a sense of who will likely accept, that way they know who to email in March. That's just my guess though.
  10. Hi, I did over the past weekend. Acceptance email from supervisor. Good luck. I think it depends on if you're first round or second round...first round is now (last week); second round is in early March or mid March.
