  1. Anna87, be sure to consider the fact that this 20% all have top percentile GRE quant scores and a strong undergrad/MA quant background, with coursework in PE, Math, Econ, etc.
  2. I have my bets that UMich will move even further up in the next USNews rankings. Of course, they don't rank PE, but if they did Mich would be a top program. I know that UMich isn't in the range that would be considered "up and coming," but Mich in both PE and Comp definitely holds its weight against the #1 ranked schools; it just doesn't get much love on these boards because it's not Stanford, Harvard, or Princeton. In the lower "up and coming" range, it gets harder to locate schools that are good in both fields, since a lot of programs further down tend to specialize in one area or another.
  3. Depends: did they invite you to visit? I can't picture a department saying "absolutely no visits/meetings for wait-listed students" if anyone were to ask for a visit, but some programs might not encourage all that much contact from students on the wait list. I'm actually curious myself about whether contacting professors via email/telephone is a good idea or not when you're on the wait list.
  4. Congrats. UToronto is really great. Toronto's better than any American program if you plan on working in Canada.
  5. OP, to make things simple for you--out of your original list, Stanford and Mich stand out as the best for CPE and IPE. UCSD is also very good. For the most part, the other schools you list--Yale, for instance--don't quite stack up in terms of reputation compared to the likes of Stanford, Mich, and UCSD (a holy trinity of PE work). Keep in mind, I'm basing this off of the information you've provided in your posts, so there are obviously other factors in determining which schools are the "best."
  6. That's a small yield relative to programs of similar size (at least based on GC results, which, of course, is far from an accurate reflection). Wonder what's going on with Penn?
  7. Yale and Berk results postings at around 5AM on a Monday morning. Very odd timing. Can anybody claim these?
  8. Fit might be a bit overrated, on this forum at least. Your interests should logically line up in some way with faculty, but working in the style of Professor so-and-so, and possibly impressing him/her, is far from an "in." It seems that a lot of strong applicants get admitted to a broad range of programs that aren't that similar in terms of research; and a lot of applicants getting in at only a few schools but managing to strike out at other comparable ones. This is largely from observation and advice I've been given, so I'm interested in hearing the thoughts of others on this.
  9. Stanford is super absurdly good in quant methods. Seriously. Congrats bauhaus! And hello everyone else.
