  1. Dear Undergrad, If you're unable to commit a minimum of 10 hrs/week in a lab please don't even bother to show up. I don't want you here even if you're just a volunteer. My research progress is more valuable than your research credit.
  2. Do you know how to cook really well and love kids?
  3. You could try to get it published through collaborators, there is a chance that you might lose the first authorship but that's the risk you will have to take. Or, you could get it published in open-access journals and not subscription-based journals... You will most likely have to pay the publication fee out of your own pocket though (usually the head professor pays this from the grant money)
  4. I applied 7 schools for PhD in Chemistry, I wanted to apply more but decided not to because I didn't want to take away my LoRers' time too much. They had to log in each school's website and filling out the survey/questionnaire along with submitting LoR for me.
  5. I didn't know which cologne to get so I decided to buy 60 cologne samplers instead.... #couldntmakeupmymind

  6. #HungerGame2 was Ah-mazing

  7. Yes I think a beeramid would be cool, I'm gonna get myself a Fridge Monkey from Amazon then!
  8. So I decided to start recycling glass bottles from all the beer I've been having lately. I was wondering if I could make something artistic or sophisticated using them...any ideas?
  9. It's so easy to overspend on Amazon -_-

Holidays, stress shopping, there's always a valid reason to buy things on Amazon.

amazon is *way* too good at making on-the-money book recommendations for me.. so dangerous.

getting a fridge monkey now~ it would be like the 5th item I purchased in the past 14 days

  10. This is the beginning of a new day!

  11. You will need to have a first author paper to get into schools like that. I know 3 people got accepted to UNC and Purdue without submitting a Chem GRE. Their GPA and GRE were mediocre but they had publications... # Papers in good journals & "amazing" LoRs & fellowships > GPA, GRE, Chem GRE, Certifications, # of posters & presentations Publish or Perish I think you're more interested in Chemical Engineering, micro/nano-fluidic device development aka lab on a chip.
  12. You don't have to submit that score. However, most of schools will make you take the diagnostic exams (e.g. organic, inorganic, biochemistry, analytical, and physical) during the first month of the semester. It would be very alarming to the admission committee/research faculty if you don't do well on them, especially for someone with your background/research experience/scholarships.
  13. had a nightmare about rain, heavy storm and flood last night...

  14. A "generic" letter of recommendation won't get you into a good school. You need someone who can write a person LoR. It seems like he/she doesn't like the fact that you're only applying to US schools...
  15. grad school is so much fun!

  17. So You Want to Go to Grad School?

Do you have the skills to be number one?! Sorry, your status triggered the Pokemon theme song portion of my brain.

  18. It depends, I didn't submit my CC transcript because I only took 1 class and it was an introduction to sociology class, which had nothing to do with chemistry.
  19. You could talk about the potential analytical projects of interest in your personal statement. Also, you want to get LoRs from analytical faculty, I had 3 LoRs from full tenured analytical professors (separation, spectroscopy, mass spec) when I applied two years ago.
  20. You could use SciFinder to determine the potential chemical reaction under different conditions.
  21. Be careful for the umbrella program through school of medicine. They will get you into the "school" and sometimes support you financially for a year. However, I noticed that there were a lot of Biomed students were having a difficult time finding a research group in general. I personally know six people got accepted through that route and ended up had to switch to a different department completely or dropped out because they weren't able to find a sponsorship after their first year. I don't know if there are any websites would give you this kind of information or not.
  22. Why do you want to go to graduate school?

    1. Just Jeff

Because my dream is to teach kids. :)
