I had this great idea to devote my spare time to reading everything I could find written by my POI ahead of my interview this weekend. Then I realized I have no spare time. This is problematic! Perhaps I should bring the Aeneid with me on the plane, though; I can see how it would be calming!

I've applied to Classics - Classical Arch at UT Austin and I was told by the department that they've been overwhelmed with a record high volume of applications; I have, however, seen many other people commenting that no one has heard from their respective departments over there. Perhaps it's possible that there's a lag over there in Anthro due to high volume as well?

Thank you!! Still toying with the idea of sending a quick hello email to the graduate students before I go next week... but I'm worried about being annoying... Good luck to you for any interviews/ application responses you have coming up!

Just over a week til the big Ann Arbor "weekend"! Good luck to everyone else whom I'll be joining there - I hope you're a little less nervous than I am!

I noticed that this morning on the results board too and thought of this thread immediately... hahaha.

Speaking of deadlines - the difference in timelines between universities in different countries is really stressing me out right now...
-
Might be! Maybe they've been alerting those they've rejected first? Has anyone posted any acceptances to U of T?

Thank you for the offer of help! I'm actually not too concerned about my application to Faculty of Classics as I wasn't even expecting to hear from Arch this early (and I definitely wasn't expecting good news!). Just wanted to make a point of emphasizing that I'd heard back from one program and not the other since I thought it'd be more likely that others reading the Classics board would have applied to Classics and not Arch. Still no news out of UT Austin, however. I might send them an email just to inquire about the status of my application. I suspect I've been rejected but I'd rather know for sure sooner rather than later. Although I shouldn't be complaining, I've had answers to 6 out of 9 applications!

If anyone else has applied to Oxford, you might be hearing from them soon. At least for Classical Archaeology; I haven't heard back from the Faculty of Classics regarding my second application yet.
-
Oh dear, thinking I may have to run over there and check... in Art History recently there was a nasty post left on the Results Board by someone who'd been rejected by UNC. What a nasty attitude! I'm glad everyone in Classics has been lovely!!

Have any of you ever amused yourselves by cruising random threads on other results boards? I have a friend applying for PhD Art History and the drama that goes on over there is great comedic relief from the nervousness this website otherwise creates in me.

Ooh... first Oxford PhD result I've seen on the board... guess I should be hearing back for MPhil within a few weeks. It does seem like everything's a bit wonky across the board in terms of people being notified. Not just in Classics; I have a friend in art history and she's experiencing the same thing.

I'm having the same conflict. I've drafted an email to send to the current students but I wonder what the point is if I'm going to be spending a few days with them in March. I feel like sending an email might give the impression that I'm a try-hard. In reality I am quite interested in getting their perspectives but I also don't want to be misinterpreted or to annoy anyone with my email. On the other hand, maybe emailing shows initiative? Maybe other people coming for an interview have also emailed?

So far not much, although I plan to sort of write down beforehand what I really want to get out of that program and why I think it's a good fit for me. I feel like this is just as much an exercise for myself and my own understanding of my goals as it is preparation for the weekend. I'm also tracking down and re-reading a few recent articles written by my POI so I can go into my secondary interview with him without being at a loss for things to talk about and with an idea of what I'd like to know more about from him. I was also given an email address at which I could contact the current students so I may introduce myself to them ahead of meeting them in Ann Arbor. I'm excited to get to meet them in person but it shouldn't hurt to send a quick hello in advance. Otherwise I am really not sure what else I can possibly do. I guess I will just have to go there and be myself. I feel like the program is a very good fit for me and I will do what I can to convince them of this but ultimately the decision is theirs! What about you?

Seems like it was a quiet week for most. Hopefully this is the week everyone hears back!

That's good question to ask, actually. Perhaps they'd let me do a summer course in Toronto at U of T to at least have it under my belt. I may inquire, but this is sort of my last choice on the list. I am not entirely worried about it... yet!
-
Well, I don't blame them. It's true that it's a requirement for their program to have an undergrad survey course, and my field courses from last year are not enough to satisfy this. They do sometimes make exceptions. I suppose they're willing to make one for me so I can start off in a similar program (Ancient Civ, Religion, and Ethnicity) and take the necessary undergrad course in my first year. On the bright side, the course will likely be a breeze. But I'm not keen on the possibility of spending time during my MA doing a 1st or 2nd year level undergrad course that isn't a language class.
-
Hahaha I just got admitted to a school for a program to which I didn't apply... cursing my undergraduate uni for not having an arch survey course... *shakes fist* I've at least been given the option of switching into it after a year.
-
You might not have been; I know a few people who haven't heard back yet or have only just heard back as of yesterday and it's not because they've been rejected, it's just that all of their programs have taken this long to meet and start sending out responses. you never know. Good luck!
-
Ah, there's another UT Austin result as of this morning. Well, at least I know now!
-
Wow I TOTALLY missed that one. Thanks for the head's up. Guess I'm not in there!
-
I haven't heard anything. I only know one other person who's applied and she hasn't heard back either. Haven't seen any results posted. I guess they haven't met yet, or they haven't contacted many people about the status.
-
I've applied for funding at KCL, but haven't heard anything. Regardless, what I've applied for won't even cover a year's tuition in an MA program.
-
A very weird feeling - getting into a program you can't afford...
