  1. Congratulations! You can now explore additional benefits that comes up with this scholarship, such as additional top-ups, two months of paid (on top of NSERC's fellowship) research experience., including paid travel cost, in Japan, etc.All the best.

Are there such top-ops for PDFs?

  2. I was #2 on the Computing Sciences PDF waiting list, and just got the offer as a letter to my parents' house! (all other letters went to my own house)

Congrats, where do you live and how come they deliver mail in a weekend

  3. I am a doctoral candidate. Just been informed by NSERC after my query abt wait-list candidate tht they have mailed me a letter to my address in Edmonton. Though I havent received it yet... I am hopeful tht it is the letter abt me getting NSERC schol.. :). What do you all think? I will keep u updated.. :)

PS: My wait-list rank was 3 in my committee (Electrical Engineering)

I am sure you got it, Congrats :)

  4. Have they already sent letters to waitlists? I got an email form NSERC today saying that I am nominated for "Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories 2012". Does this mean they are no giving me PDF any mre?

  5. Congratulations to you marmoor, I also got my feedback. Got ranked 18 out of 116 in the same group, so I'm watching your back :P Joking aside, I am not holding my breath for declined awards. I decided to find a job in industry and accepted a postdoc position in the meantime. So I'm good :)

Congrats to you too, I will be going to industry but still really wanted to have PDF in my CV :(, so you are ranked 10 and I am ranked 6 in the wait list, I am not so sure if they will even get 2 from the waitlist so lets find a way of highlighting the waitlist thing in our resume :P

  6. So they have mailed me my application feedback, 14 out of 116 in ECE, I wonder how many ECE people have they accepted last year and what are my chances ?!!!!!

  7. Hi winter2012, how did you calculate the number of PDF holders this year ? I believe the official results have not been posted on NSERC's website yet: http://www.nserc-crs...t/index_eng.asp

Somebody in this forum asked by telephone an NSERC agent about the number of PDF for this year competition (2012-2013), and she said around 100.

I agree, how did you find the list?

  8. Wow it might be close! For 2010/2011, 23/289 (8%) success rate for NSERC's share of Banting!

The difference is, the quality of the applications submitted to banting are all high so 8% can be very tricky there. Anyways assuming every banting award winner applied to NSERC too, this means 23 of the people from the waitlist are going to get PDF. So the success rate in the PDF waitlist is around 50% :P (I did all this to get a high percentage number for something related to PDF :) )

  9. Why would they so harshly cut the PDF budget two years in a row?? Also, NSERC announced last year that the numbers would be UP significantly this year! It the lady UBC2012 talked to was correct, that is quite outrageous, not to mention unfair and cruel.

And congrats marmoor... wow maybe you should be the one giving out PDFs! ;)

Thanks alot, well this is the base salary paid to CS people in silicon valley (I dont know why we go for postdoc at all !!!) and this is where I got my offer :). I will start my own NSERC (called MOORSERC as of next year :)))))))

  10. No, I insisted alot to even tell me these stats. But based on these numbers the waitlist chances would be less, I guess.

If it was last year are waitlist people would have got the award since 131 PDF were granted :(

  11. I just called NSERC and the lady was kind enough to tell me that : This year around 100 applicants have been awarded the PDF and almost 37-40 (in total) have been short listed. I guess NSERC should close the PDF program as it is just shrinking each year.

I guess she didnt tell you anything about waitlist chances?
