I strongly believe I will receive my letter on April 6th the same as three years ago

Slightly OT: I applied for the NSERC PDF competition thinking I'd be done my degree this summer, ready to start the PDF Sept 1, but hiccups has arisen that make this a less than likely outcome. I'm aware that failure to complete degree requirements by Sept 1 means that your PDF is revoked, but any ideas on whether this also means that your application is counted against your maximum of 2 times you're allowed to apply for the competition? Obviously if one is awarded a PDF one year that they can't accept, they're probably going to still be in pretty good standing for the next year of competition, but still, it would suck to only have one chance left at the competition... And of course, what with the delayed notifications I am indeed counting chickens before they've hatched. Though I am wondering if I should call them before I get my letter and ask them to forget I applied...
This is my problem as well, do you think they are very strict on the defense date to be before Sep 1? I dont think you calling will help know and who knows maybe when you get the award you get alot of energy to finish you thesis, how far are you in your thesis? and why are you so sure that you wont defend on time?

McGill
I dont think McGill will email us the results since they beleive students get them the same time.

well-said, tomj!
I think it's normal to not receive our letters today, for people in Montreal or Ottawa. Did you expect NSERC (the government) to be so efficient as to print and mail the letters the day after the budget was disclosed ?
Well the departments should at least know?!!!!
-
I'm in Ottawa -- I got nothing but an Ikea flyer in the mail today.
Well then NSERC is taking their time, I think the letters are printed today.
-
Did anyone from Ottawa get anything?

I have a good news for Vanier applicants. I called the responsible for Vanier program
The results will be available today on Researchnet
haha, I guess you are calling every single phone number in NSERC and the Vanier division picked up the phone by chance
-
Well I guess I am going to get my letter the same day I got it three years ago on April 6th .
I wish they were flexible on graduation dates as well!!! They force you to graduate before August 31th for PDF and if you are late by only one day your award is cancelled!!!

))) just checked the forum.

Last 2 years, letters were dated on Friday and we receive them (in Montreal) by Monday
2010: Letters were dated Friday 19th March and we receive them on Monday 22th March
2011: Letters were dated Friday 18th March and we receive them on Monday 21th March
If we go on Post Canada website, it is indicated that a letter from Ottawa to Montreal need 3 open days. So my question is how in the last 2 year, we received the letter in only one open day ?
The days in Canada post are just estimates and from my experience mail send on Friday do get delivered to Montreal on Monday. So figures crossed and good luck everyone.

I guess I will receive my award.rejection letter tomorrow

Any news from NSERC this morning ?
)) yes somebody knocked at my door this morning handed my award letter and apologized for the delay.
-
Hey guys, if I win Vanier ( which will not happen ) , I will invite every single one in this thread to a great party in Montreal So don't be stressed.
I am in, I know which school you are from and I am sure there a not many people that win Vanier so I will track you down if you dont keep your promise remember we are serious arrogant delicacies
-
If they have offended your delicate nature, feel free to decline your award . Someone will gladly take it for you!
So asking people to stick to work ethics and respect clients is interpreted as delicate nature. Anyways, good luck to all next week might be results week if we are lucky.
-
That rule is for you and your application, nowhere does it say that they should adhere by that rule as well. That's your (erroneous/arrogant) assumption.
I see no reason in defending NSERC, if you go to website such as NSF they are very organized and commit to deadlines, results are also posted online. So its a matter of work ethics and respecting your people.
-
But They never ask for this before. So you think if we do not receive such mail, wei did not win ?
Can be, lets see if anyone else get this info, based on what they have emailed him I think because they are too late they just want to post names online.
-
I have no idea!!!! Maybe they want to put the names of the winners on the website.
Has anyone else got this?
-
Guys,
Mon collegue a recu un courriel du CRSNG. Il lui demande de signer un formulaire pour permettre la divulgation des information et de retourner les informations.
Est ce que ca veut dire qqch ???
Lui il applique au PGS - M
My colleague has just received an email from NSERC. They ask him to sign a form to permit the disclosure of information and must return the document
What do you think that mean ??
He applies to PGS - M
I have no idea!!!! Maybe they want to put the names of the winners on the website.

I got a mail from NSERC, the results will be ready on April 2nd, through Researchnet.
Does this include NSERC PDF? Did you receive an email or mail?
-
Why are you guys calling? NSERC won't give results over the phone and they are likely printing all the letters today so they can mail them on Monday. They'll be busy! Emailing will take time as well, a couple thousand students spread out over 50 universities. They'll need a few days.
We wanna make sure they have no decided to wait for some other budget release or excuse to delay sending our the letters while notifying some people randomly

Anyone here have tried to call nserc. Voice mail answer :s
