  1. When you guys talk about the department releasing the PDF results, are you talking about your former university, or the new one? It is unclear to me how the new one will know if you got the award (since you only need to suggest places on the application - nothing is official). Just trying to figure out if there is any way I can find out sooner about the PDF (rather than waiting for my letter to arrive to me in the US!).

    Former one.

  2. There will be no cuts more than last year for PGS/CGS and PDF. So proportion will be 50%, 50% and 9-10%

If you want to know tomorrow the answer, you have to ask your department.

For Montreal, i think Tuesday will be the big day !!!

Do you think the departments will release PDF results as well?

  3. More like Monday or Tuesday, I would wager. Remember this is government right? They'll need tomorrow to figure out who gets it and who doesn't and to put the letters in the mail. Monday for Canada Post to process it and Tuesday for Ottawa to recieve it.

Which means that westerners like me won't get it until after Easter. /sigh.

Is there any chance that PDF results are released by the universities?

  4. No harm in asking, I bet they will have them by 4PM

The only thing is McGill never informs applicants of their awards. I have won NSERC two times and I got informed by mail all the time.

  5. :)))) guess this is NSERC's way of generating a friendly environment between grad students :D. I wonder how long will it take for them to send the letters since the budget is already announced. They have us all ranked so its just a matter of printing letters.
  6. I have one page open writing up my new paper, another page open writing up my thesis, another page open editing reviews for my recent papers but am here all them time :)))

  7. I am fully bilingual ( trilingual even), he could simply ask for it politely. I simply felt that eliasg was more comfortable with French, that's all.

Edit : PS : just to let you know guys, you can apply to NSERC in FRENCH.

French is an official language of Canada.

The same here, I agree with you.

  8. Guys lets not divert the topic of this forum to language and race fights, there is few people writing in French here and I actually assume they are more comfortable with it. We can use google translate if it is hard to understand.

  9. WOW they have been very unfair to PDF applicants, 50% cutoff!!!! Guess the PDF acceptance rate is going to be 5% this year. No reason to give people 70K for banting, if someone has a good application then they will just get any postdoc or faculty position they want!!

  10. I am ECE and my friends got jobs in IBM, AMD, Synopsis brachs in Toronto. But I know of may mechanical Eng's as well which got jobs this year.

BTW, I dont think you can find a research position since it is very rare and seldom they post open positions for that, my fiends all got development jobs.

  11. where is the job. i could not find one...could u pls let me know...i am a mechanical engineer

  12. Well, we are going to get what we deserve: more money for prisons and punishment, less environmental regulations, and less funding going to education. I hope NSERC survives the cuts unscathed, but I doubt it will.

Yeap, the only good thing is the job market is really good now, all my friends found jobs I guess a good job market is always better than some low paid scholarships that end up in useless degree's -if there are no jobs-. BTW where are you guys planning to take your awards?

  13. The results will be announced at the end of April. The answer to your other question should be in the rules here: http://www.fqrnt.gou...eglesB3_ang.pdf

Thank for your reply, the rules don't say anything about when you should have become a citizen they just say citizens can take their award out of country. But I guess they mean at the time of the application.
