  1. Has anyone heard from Portland State? My deadline was Feb 1st..... and still.... nada!!! I'm wondering if schools are waiting for April 15th before sending other letters. Hmmm
  2. I attended a 4 day GRE prep course 8am to 4pm... then studied (mostly verbal) for 2 weeks before taking it. Oddly enough I did worse on Verbal and 5 points better on Quantitative. I don't have my Writing score back yet.
  3. I am using it to track my application status... which still says "incomplete" but the only thing the the "to do list" beneath it, says "Document Submission ID form" and the status on that is "initiated." I have no idea what's going on or why my application is listed as incomplete. I tried calling my department but only got voicemail so I left a message but I haven't heard back. I'm so worried, the deadline is in a few days and I don't know what's going on. I'm debating if i should call again or just not worry about it since nothing else was listed. Does anyone else use the My.SJSU site?
  4. Have you heard anything yet? When was your deadline? I'm waiting to hear from SDSU and SJSU. The deadlines were March and April 1st. So I will be playing this waiting game for a while I suppose. I have one application left to do and I'm struggling. I can't imagine applying to 10+ schools because I'm so burnt out! Oh and of course their application is more involved than the others... it's not due until July though... Which I find extremely weird.
  5. The email she sent me said their min scores are: V= 150 Q= 142 AW= 4.0 I'm not a good test taker at all... I always panic when I am being timed.... my best scores on the GRE: V=147 Q= 144 AW= 4.0 (I haven't gotten the scores back from my retake though, hopefully it's higher as well). My GPA is 3.01 (3.0 is the requirement) and I took a lot of leadership positions in my extracurricular activities. I know my stats are lot lower than most people here, and I've seen people be rude about stuff like that here... so please be kind Anyways, TIA!
  6. A while ago I received an email from SDSU's graduate advisor stating my GRE scores are below their minimum requirement and she asked me if I was going to retake it. I told her yes, studied and retook the the test. My scores are back and I met their requirements for only the Math and Writing section. I actually did worse on Verbal than before... UGH. Should I email her and tell her I didn't meet the Verbal requirement? Are they going to toss out my application? I've met the GPA requirement, so I am really curious about what they are going to think. I live on the east coast so I'm sure that makes my chances of getting in even lower because it seems as if CSU schools favor california applicants. This sucks....
  7. That is extremely weird. I've taken the gre 3 times. Once in 2009, then January of this month, and again last week. When I log in it shows every score. Definitely call ETS. I have called them before to find out the date they sent my score electronically. She was very helpful. Keep us updated on your situation. I hope it gets sorted out.
  8. Your gpa isn't mediocre. I have a 3.1 gpa in Kinesiology if it makes you feel any better.
  9. Haha. Very good point! I already sent one of my SOP but in the next one I will alter that sentence. It sucks it's too late for one school but at least I get the chance to change it for the other 3 I have left.
  10. I'm currently dealing with the same thing. I asked 3 professors and 1 of them has disappeared off the face of the earth. I've have heard nothing from my emails and phone calls (and messages). I am thinking about asking the Editor of the magazine I volunteer for...... my program is journalism.... do you think that will be okay instead of a professor? She lives nearby so I could overnight it.
  11. Thanks everyone. I've decided to go with the 2nd one. I may change the wording it but I will keep it straightforward.
  12. Thanks splitends. After reading your comment, I'm beginning to think that intro #1 is a bit risky.
  13. Thanks for the opinions so far! @psychgurl, I have decided to add the 1st sentence you suggested to my intro #2 incase I choose it. I liked that idea. The other things you mentioned are also good ideas but I state those things further into my sop.
  14. Intro #1 is my original intro but my friend (who is finishing up his phd) says the story isn't pertinent. I'm kinda attached to it but if it doesn't strengthen my sop then I will definitely trash it. Instead of what I have he suggested that I write about why I'm interested in journalism. So I jotted a few sentences down to help me decide whether or not to change intros. INTRO #1: During my first year out of college, I worked in a physical therapy clinic. I became friends with a patient who had seizures regularly; he shared his life story and regrets. I received heartwarming and philosophical advice from him and other patients who made me rethink my life journey to date. Going forward I have decided to treasure those who are close to me and to pursue my passions of writing and journalism. INTRO #2 My dream is to become a journalist because it gives me a voice, the ability to connect and enlighten readers. This field is appealing to me because there are many different areas to work within journalism: Print, broadcast, new media. I am interested in editorial writing and desire to learn more about new media.
  15. I'm still waiting to hear back from PSU. Congrats on getting in
  16. Hey Kristin! ...We have the same name Anyways, I applied to Portland State too! I'm still waiting back... Ugh... The deadline was Feb 1st so I may have a while to go. Have you heard from them yet? Your thread has gotten me so excited to finish the rest of my applications. Everywhere I am applying is out of state.
