  1. For those who are waiting to hear about if you move up the waitlist for Doctoral SSHRC, here's the response I received when asking about it... Email?! SSHRC?! That'll be a surprise! - Good luck to the rest of those who were waitlisted!
  2. Thanks, Canuckonomist! Do you think it's worth emailing them back to find out more than where I sit on the waitlist? Like, will they tell me if anyone's been awarded a vanier in my sub-group?
  3. I know someone who didn't get OGS (not even the waitlist) and yet were given SSHRC CGS. Obviously, if you have a strong proposal, but the committee at OGS didn't like it for some reason, there's still lots of reason to believe you are still in the game for SSHRC.
  4. found out I'm third on the waitlist. How should I feel?
  5. May I ask how you found out your rank on the waitlist? If you emailed SSHRC, how soon did they respond?
  6. waitlisted, again. 16.6/30
  7. Did anyone outside of a large city like Toronto/Montreal get their letters yet?
  8. I regret putting down my parents' address for correspondence with SSHRC. I have to rely on them to check the mail! GRRRRRRRR
  9. Looks like Mariokrat did:
  10. For future reference, a program officer is the person at SSHRC you want to talk to.... the one who will give you answers (unfortunately, not always the ones you want to hear!) Congrats to everyone with successful results. I'm still waiting to hear either way.
  11. could people please explain how they found out their results?
  12. I had the same result last year. Basically, it means you had a high quality application, but that they ran out of money before they could give you any. It goes by scores, so you probably just missed the cut. The good news is that this places you on a waiting list. Here's the info I received last year about recommended but not funded: "When applicants apply to a committee in the Doctoral Awards program (National competition), their applications are forwarded randomly to one of the committee's sub-groups (the number of sub-groups varies by committee and depends on the volume of applications received by the committee). Each sub-group is assigned three committee members (normally from different research backgrounds) that evaluate, score and rank all applications in their assigned sub-group. The success rate in the competition remains the same across all committees and their respective sub-groups. Your place on the waiting list is determined by your score within your sub-group. If an award recipient in your sub-group declines their award, we will proceed through the list in rank order. Please note, that there will be allot of movement on the recommended but not funded lists this summer. SSHRC plans to let applicants know their final decisions by August 2009. Thank you very much for your patience with this matter and good luck in this year's competition" Hope this helps. Keep in mind that this means you had a very good application! It's still something to be proud of.
  13. Well, at least we have some idea of what's going on... I got this by email today via my school: "FGS has just been notified by the new administrator of the OGS Program that official results will likely be received in mid to late May. After we receive them, there is a manual process in our office to record the results. The administrator indicated that they will likely be entered by the end of the month. Until the results are completely entered, she is unable to generate our reports, and of course we are unable to share the results with you. The administrator is encouraging us to inform students that they need to wait until they receive their official documentation before making any inquiries. " I interpret this to mean that the websites will be updated by the end of the month, but that official notifications will not be sent out until May. So, it's probably still worth checking the website every day, since we know OGS has updated SOME peoples' status.
  14. goodnight all. Better luck tomorrow perhaps!
  15. 12:03... nothing yet. And it begins again
  16. In my previous experiences with SSHRC (being unsuccessful and being recommended but not funded) I was always first informed by email by the Grad Chair of the department, then received the snail-mail letter from SSHRC about a week later. Some grad chairs don't do this, though, so some of us will be hearing by snail mail first.
  17. I agree. I wouldn't give up hope yet. It doesn't make much sense to only notify the winners, and it's quite possible that people who were unsucessful are less inclined to post here. So, try again tomorrow!
  18. I'm starting to think the same thing, but I really hope that's not the case! If OGS is capable of posting the successful results, they should also be able to post the unsucccessful ones. This is just torture for those who haven't heard.
  19. I think it may be posted by discipline. I haven't heard any results from my friends in Science.
  20. Anyone who is in science get their results?
  21. PS: Glad to know I'm not the only one up so late checking the website!
  22. Congrats to everyone else that got it.. I just am posting to say that I was also able to access the results! I'm hoping to move this thread to the top spot so everyone knows to check the results on the website! sweet.
  23. I get paid exactly the same as what LockeOak said you will, so I think that's correct: You will get paid 16K divided up each month from September to May, and likely will not receive funding in the summer.
  24. hey Randall, I think the way it works is that A-list applicants go on to Ottawa, and B-list applicants don't. The university-level cut is what determines this. So, if SSHRC said they received your stuff, you are an A-list applicant. That's my understanding, at least. Hope this helps!
  25. I'm not sure, but I remember hearing that, unlike SSHRC, your chances of getting OGS sit around 1 in 3. Much better odds than for SSHRC.
