  1. Just got accepted into SFU!! My first acceptance and it was absolutely my top choice. I may or may not have just cried a bit in public.
  2. upvoted for your reply, not the rejection!
  3. my students have almost all called me by my first name, and i'm pretty sure i would hate anything else! It might be because I'm still an undergraduate and some of these people are older than me (and they're at most 3 years younger), though. One student called me "Miss" (no last name, just Miss) a couple times and it was suuuper weird, especially considering how... casual I am
  4. I was soo set on ending up in Montreal for grad school because of how amazing it is. It was a very sad day when I realized both McGill and Concordia were bad fits for me!
  5. ughhh, pretty much everything. i made brownies today and i've eaten ~1/2 of the pan? reading week + waiting for results = too much free time and the only thing that gets my mind off admissions is baking and eating all the things
  6. congrats!! I'm checking my SFU application pretty much religiously... so much that I finally memorized that silly GA###### login. Getting reaaaal sick of seeing "No offer has been made"
  7. congrats! i'm still on interim review... any time now, schools!
  8. ahh!! congrats!
  9. Resist temptation!! I would check it out first. Maybe I'm only saying that because you might still get into McGill, and their campus is so beautiful that it would be enough to drag me away from waterloo (I say this as someone who is applying to neither school, haha).
  10. !!! Congrats! Waterloo for math, oh man. (also - have you ever noticed that people who aren't in math don't really get what's big about Waterloo? But those of us in math basically fawn over it [double bracket - I realize being in stats isn't strictly math, but same sentiment])
  11. My hope is restored! I emailed the graduate secretary to ask when I could expect to hear an admissions decision, and while she doesn't have a confirmed date, she did tell me that the committee is just now viewing the applications. Awesome.
  12. canadian schools seem to be slower this year than in past years, at least what i've seen from creeping the results page. at least, that's what i'm hoping. i convinced myself that, based on results from past years for one school (and not even from my program there...), I would hear on the 14th or 15th if I was accepted. If i didn't hear in those two days, then I would be rejected later on. well, i didn't hear from them, and now i'm not entirely sure where I got those two days from. Here's thinking/hoping I'll still get good news!
  13. No worries! I saw that you aren't in Canada and thought I would clear up how it works (to the best of my knowledge, at least).
  14. Schools are open during reading week! At least, mine is. They just cancel classes, but I believe profs are still in. Which is giving me hope that maybe if there aren't classes to teach, committees will have more time to make decisions and we'll start hearing a lot more...? Also, not totally sure about all schools, but I know some (SFU) are just finishing up reading week, and some have it in 2 weeks.
  15. it's buried a few pages back, but there's some of us posting yay, more canadians
  16. I've gotten to that point of refreshing my email literally every 2 minutes in class. Doing well, clearly.
  17. from what i've seen, a bunch of results from my top pick will start coming out tomorrow... it's nerve-wracking.
  18. congrats! my applyyourself page for U Manitoba says "COMPLETE DEPARTMENT REVIEW"... this is terrifying.
  19. The `rule' of April 15 doesn't apply to Canadian schools. Not sure what school barnswallow has been accepted to but I've seen another (or maybe the same) school with a three week decision time.
  20. I emailed admissions about something like this for one of my schools. Since they get so many transcripts etc, essentially I was told there were 507 applications to be processed before mine, and my application would not be marked as complete until then. But, I emailed back and double checked and asked if I would still be considered for admission. They told me as long as the application is SUBMITTED on time, it would be considered. Long story short... call or email admissions!
  21. fingers crossed that i get an undergraduate research award i just applied for! if not... get a crappy job to make some cash before i (hopefully) move.
  22. my dad has said (more than once) "well, you have to let us know about each school either way." nooo, i'm going to withhold that information. i live with my parents and this will be my first time moving away... i'd say that they're pretty involved in this whole process and obviously i'll be letting them know.
  23. congrats!! When was your application deadline? I'm waiting to hear from SFU, but my application has only been in for 5 days. Is the decision online? I hate that it just said "No offer has been made." Sorry, I'm kind of SFU crazy.
  24. Anyone else feeling like they have NO idea what the applicant pool is like for their programs? I guess that's the downside to a small Canadian representation on here
