  1. I agree, if you do well in Calc 2, 3, and the upper level math courses, I don't think they'll really care about your Calc 1 grade. In my undergrad at UMich, I had a terrible teacher for Calc 1 and got a B-, but got A/A-'s in the rest of my math classes. And BU, UMich, and Georgetown still admitted me for biostats.
  2. Hi Noco7, I went to UMich and had a 3.75 GPA, with GRE's of 160/168/4.0. I got accepted into Georgetown, BU, and UMich so far, and am still waiting to hear back from some other places.
  3. I applied to Georgetown's biostats program, and when I asked the program coordiantor about funding, she told me that they don't fully fund students. But instead, they hire students to work as research assistants for the department where they can earn up to $5,000/semester. So they fund you through the research work you do. I think cyberwulf is right in saying most MS programs are generally not funded, but you could look for programs that offer part-time work to help pay the tuition. I don't think georgetown's deadline has passed yet, so if you're interested, you could try applying there and getting one of those research postions.
  4. Yeah, I think most deadlines for PhD programs have already passed...But I know that some Biostats Master's programs, like Georgetown's, are still accepting applications. So you could try applying to those if you're serious about going back to school this fall.
  5. Most of the top programs like Georgetown, Columbia, UWashington, and Brown have MS degrees; the only school I know of that offers an MA in Biostats is BU, but I really don't think there's any significant difference between the two since the coursework is all pretty much the same.
  6. Hi Xiaoxin, Georgetown University in Washington DC is still accepting applications for this fall for their Master's in Biostatistics program. I think they're deadline is in June, so if you're interested, you still have time to apply. I have a couple of friends who are graduates who are working as biostatisticians now, and they say it's a great program, so it might be worth looking into if you're interested.
  7. Hi bharath, I also applied to GW & UC Davis and am waiting to hear back, but I just got accepted into Georgetown's MS in Biostats program (and will most likely be attending)!! I have a couple of friends graduating from there this spring who say it's a great program, so it might be worth looking into (I think they're deadline is in June, so it hasn't passed yet). Anyways, good luck, and let me know if you'll be joining me at Georgetown this fall!!
