  1. Bactrian - Thanks for offering your insight! I'm also contemplating MAPSS. I think it would help me narrow my research focus and be a good boost academically but I've read mixed reviews on the forum. The website says 900 applications were under review and 170 students were accepted. How many people were in your class? Also, if the Chicago academic year starts in late September/October, how do you get to know a professor well enough to request they write you a LOR in time to apply? Or did you just use your original LORs?
  2. I've been rejected from most of my schools so I'm starting to plan my next steps. I want to apply again next year so I'm thinking contractual/temporary employment. Maybe Americorps or a fellowship if I can find one? I've started looking at research fellowships but a lot of the deadlines have passed.
  3. If you didn't get an open house invitation from a school (CU Boulder), does that basically mean it's a rejection?
  4. I'm waiting too. I'm assuming it's a rejection. Maybe I will email them next week so I don't have to hear another rejection this week. Space out the disappointment!
  5. I'll claim another. It's my 2nd rejection but this one really makes me sad. Just need one school...
  6. I downloaded the "Admissions Results" app. I'm not sure if it's any good but it's another tool with which to torture myself. Anxiety in your pocket!
  7. Thanks! That's a good idea. I'm abroad at the moment but I was able to get the log-in information for my old local library to access online journals.
  8. When you're researching a particular professor and you want to read his or her work, how do you access journals if you're no longer able to use a database with a university ID? I'm sure there is a way but I keep encountering pay-to-access sites. What are you all using?
  9. Just took my GRE in the Philippines, while there was ongoing construction in the building. Sigh.

  10. Hmm. I guess you're right. I just haven't spoken to them in a few years. But I suppose it's better to increase your chances, even if it means being a nuisance. And my spreadsheets are out of control.
  11. I'm applying to 10ish. I want to apply to more but I feel bad asking my professors to write all these recommendations. I know they can copy/paste but they still have to sort through all these links filling up their inbox.
