sherms31 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Hi all, I'm considering applying to the Penn MPH part-time for Fall 2018. I have a full time job and am not planning on relocating for this degree, so I am only considering Philadelphia schools. Penn obviously has a very prestigious name in general, and in the medical world, even though the program itself seems to be unranked. Does the name matter in this case? Or would it be similar to me going to Temple (only enticing because of the price tag). Or is online even a better option? Another benefit for Penn for me is that they waive the GRE if you had another graduate degree, which I do. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks!

In your case, since you don't plan on relocating, I don't think it matters which Philly school you go to. It'll still be better than getting it from .....let's say, East Stroudsburg University which is where I got mine from. If you're not worried about prestigious names and all of that B's..... There's always west Chester. They don't require GRE and they have an online option as well. (Plus it'll save you a lot of money). I'm from the Northeast area if you were wondering.
GraddCaffe Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 (edited) I've had a great experience in the Penn MPH program. I'm in a dual maters program. I've personally had some great opportunities come along from being here. It's not a crazy expensive program, great faculty. I recommend it, even if it is unranked. I turned down Mailman (Columbia) and some others to come here. Edited February 8, 2018 by GraddCaffe
epi_phd2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Not an MPH student/applicant, but a doctoral one - have you considered Drexel? I know a few people that have gotten MPHs at Drexel and I am really interested in their PhD program. I visited a few weeks ago for an interview and was really surprised how much I liked it. I went to a top 10 MPH program and I loved it, but @hccgrl is kinda right - it is more about your experience than anything else. Good luck!
