Soon2beSLPf18 Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 I applied to several NY/NJ schools. I’m nervous about not getting in anywhere! GPA: 3.74 GRE: V: 149, Q: 144, AW: 4.5 OTHER: research assistant for 2 different professors (one for 1 year, another for 5 months), observed speech at a rehab center for 32 hours, volunteered as an intern at a pediatric therapy center for children with autism, worked as a babysitter for 4 years and currently work a daycare at a preschool. I feel like I should have very strong LORs from the professors that I’ve done research with. I also think my personal statements were strong! I’d love some honest feedback! I know how competitive programs are in the NJ/NYC area. Do I have good a shot at getting into at least 1/11 schools?
snoves Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 I'd imagine that you do. Your GPA is competitive! And applying to more school's just going to increase your chances. I've been accepted to 1/4 schools so far (the rest haven't been posted) and just interviewed for another. Stats: GPA 3.92, GRE 164V 144Q 5.0AW Other junk: Tutored grade school literacy for all four years, started tutoring for Spanish/ComDis classes this past year for my college, NSSLHA member and have held various positions (volunteer chair, secretary, and currently president), volunteer once a week in a mentoring program with middle school kids, and work over the summer as a summer camp counselor. In middle/high school and my first year of college I volunteered at a camp for kids with speech-language disorders which totaled about ~3,000 hours of volunteering over six years
yochapa Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I applied to 5 schools, so far I've been admitted to 2, pending notification after an interview from 1, and haven't heard anything from the other two (but won't expect to for a few weeks). My stats: GPA 3.75 (CSD GPA 3.9), GRE 155V 153Q 4.0AW Other info: 2 research projects related to language, active participation in CSD club on campus, volunteer work in an elementary school, hospital, and an aphasia clinic, significant experience working with children as a teacher's aide, completed observation hours, and 2 of my LORs came from faculty in CSD who know me quite personally, and 2 of my letters came from out of field faculty who also know me quite well. You actually have pretty similar qualifications to me, and my luck has been pretty good so far. I applied to schools in the west, though, like Washington/Oregon/California. Good luck, I hope you get some good news soon!
