wannabePhD Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I just got a rejection from my one and only school. Thanks to all of you for your support! Good luck - I hope all of you get into your first choice! With full funding!
socialcomm Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I'm sorry, that stinks. Will you try again next year? Best of luck to you!
lily_ Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 It's such a bummer isn't it? Well, there's always next year. I got denied from one and am waiting to hear from my top choice, but word on the street is that they made offers Monday and rejections come next week. What a sadistic cycle, it'd be nicer if they rejected people first and then admitted them! My fiance got denied to every school he applied to the first year around. The second year he applied, he got offers from three (two with full funding!)
wannabePhD Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Thank you so much! I will probably try again next year. But then again ... I'm starting to get excited about what this year may bring. chimerical 1
Branwen daughter of Llyr Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 sorry to hear... I'm facing 4 rejections, so I kind of know how you feel. If you decide to apply again next year - GOOD LUCK! And if you're anything like me, you won't let one round of rejections stifle your dream lily_ 1
Medievalmaniac Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you don't give up! Apply again next year! lily_ 1
Medievalmaniac Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you don't give up! Apply again next year!
The Pseudo grad student Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I'm glad to hear that you are still very optimistic after being rejected. It's quite an example for all of us to follow!! I hope that the rest of the year will bring you good news and by your optimism, I think it definitely will! Keep us posted on
anxiousapplicant Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I too am glad your're optimistic. I am facing across the board rejections, too, I think, but being positive is just too hard for me. I'm glad you're not succumbing to it. Good luck with everything!
oldlady Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 So sorry for you, but glad that you are keeping your perspective. Good luck with your new direction!
Babbling Dweeb Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Thank you so much! I will probably try again next year. But then again ... I'm starting to get excited about what this year may bring. Good luck to you! With that attitude, I'm sure 2010 will be a good year for you. Take care!
BCHistory Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I'm sorry how this application season turned out, but best of luck next year if you decide to apply again!
chimerical Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Wow, you have a fantastic attitude. It's refreshing. With that in hand I'm sure you're going to do great no matter which path you choose. Best of luck!
parapluie Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Thank you so much! I will probably try again next year. But then again ... I'm starting to get excited about what this year may bring. I hope I am as positive as you are if I get rejected from my one and only school I applied to. I wish you all the best!
Emilee Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Hang in there. I got rejected to all the schools I applied to last year(and I applied to eleven ). This time around I was accepted to a top program in my field. So there is always hope for next year.
ted hudson Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Good luck. You can always try again. I have applied to just one school as you did.
grad_wannabe Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I just got a rejection from my one and only school. Thanks to all of you for your support! Good luck - I hope all of you get into your first choice! With full funding! I sympathize, similar-board-name buddy. Good luck next year!
FoggyAnhinga Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Darn, I'm sorry to hear that. Nevertheless, you sound optimistic, so I'm sure you'll end up somewhere in future. Good luck!
nervousandwaiting Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I totally feel you on this one. I applied to 10 schools last year and got rejected from 9/waitlisted at the other. It pretty much was the worst and I felt so down. However, I spent the year getting more experience in my field and reapplied this year. I've only heard back from 1 school so far but....it was an acceptance! Wahoo! So don't get too down and reapply! Best of luck!
a fragrant plant Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 To those who have secured an acceptance this year but were rejected by all schools last year, can you please give me some advice on reapplying? What did you do to make yourself a better candidate (in a year time)? Did you reapply to the same schools?

nervousandwaiting Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 To those who have secured an acceptance this year but were rejected by all schools last year, can you please give me some advice on reapplying? What did you do to make yourself a better candidate (in a year time)? Did you reapply to the same schools? What field are you? If it is possible to get a job (paid or volunteer, doesn't matter), work. You will learn a ton and will have a better idea of what you want to focus on in Grad school. I only reapplied to 2 of the same schools. During my year off, I realized I had different wants from programs so my list of schools changed. Whatever you do, don't give up. Try and gain all the experience you can and you will become a better applicant.
microman Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 To those who have secured an acceptance this year but were rejected by all schools last year, can you please give me some advice on reapplying? What did you do to make yourself a better candidate (in a year time)? Did you reapply to the same schools? I was rejected to all of the 5 programs I applied to last year. This year, I took a much more organized approach. In June I started the application process, studying a month and a half for the GRE and researching schools that fit. I wrote my statement of purpose over the course of September (and took over a month to polish it instead of the 1 day the previous cycle). Picked a bunch of better fitting schools, and shotgunned it, 14. It worked out well. The biggest piece of advice I have is to simply not give up and keep your attitude looking up, that's where it all begins. @WannabePhD, you've definitely got the right outlook on this. Keep trying!
jd/phd Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 6 out of 7 rejections so far (still waiting to hear from the top school in my field). no responses so far from law schools (was wanting to do grad school first and law school second but now I am beginning to think I want to do the other way around, and not just because I got 6 rejections).
