futureslp622 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Hi All! I'm pretty torn between grad schools right now and was hoping that some of you could possibly provide me with your opinions. I've been accepted to Columbia University, Northeastern University, Boston University and waitlisted to MGH. I am leaning towards medical speech pathology, so a big factor in my decision are the surrounding hospitals. I am originally from NY so I think right now the major issue is deciding what city I want to pursue my Masters in. I've always loved Boston but I'm not sure if starting this chapter in an unfamiliar setting is the best choice. If there are any graduate students who are in these programs or simply if you have any insight I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!!
AlwaysaFalcon Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Congratulations! Those sound like great schools. Other than the hospitals in the area, look at cost. For me one of the deciding factors was cost. Is there one program that is significantly more expensive than the other? If you have to take out loans to pay for your education its not going to be worth it to get into a significant amount more debt for. Go with the school that you have a good feeling about and that you think will have the best clinical opportunities and in my opinion cheaper. It's ultimately up to you but that would be my advice because when you apply for jobs the job won't care if you get into a more expensive, fancier school. They will care if you are a competent clinician. bibliophile222 1
cityslp Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I'm currently in a similar situation deciding between Boston and NYC programs. Just curious, where did you end up?
