@LOiseauRouge I have not gotten a time back with a confirmation, but I submitted my availability by email.  I'm sure they're just getting their schedule in order.

Okay, thanks! Figured as much. I was talking with my mom and she was like, "You need to call them! What if they didn't get your email?" and I got nervous ^^;

I wouldn’t recommend calling. It’s a busy time for graduate admissions, so I’d simply get back in touch by email if you haven’t had a response for four or five days.

On edit: I’m not sure if this information will be useful, but my interview with Cambridge was in English and quite rushed (15 minutes is nothing, really.)

Thanks @trotskor! That is good to know. One of my profs told me to try to be as concise as possible in my answers since it is such a short interview and I tend to be overly talkative when nervous (or even just in general to be honest), so I'll have to work on that before the interview.

Well according to the results page, from the latest Pitt acceptance : "Was told by friend at program that all the acceptance were already sent out"

.......me not included....so I guess I'll be waiting for that rejection. Honestly feeling super discouraged rn.

I would pay little attention to the idle inklings of anonymous posters online.

I guess normally I wouldn't, but with two people (that we know of) accepted on the same date....doesn't look too good. ?

Hey hey hey everybody!

Like a few of you, I've also been lurking this thread for quite some time without posting. I'm mainly interested in postcolonial studies and global/comparative francophonie, particularly francophone literature from Vietnam and SE Asia and the Vietnamese diaspora. I applied to 11 PhD programs lol and have been hearing responses from most of them.

UC Berkeley sent out their acceptance decisions today. I got accepted which is super exciting because it has been one of my top choices for a long time, and from what I can see on the admissions results survey, there have been some other acceptances from people on this forum as well, so congrats to y'all!

I interiewed with Northwestern over Skype, but I don't think it went very well seeing as how they didn't invite me to their visiting days (yikes), but it's all good! I've also had Skype interviews with CUNY and Princeton, and NYU coming up next week. I'm visiting Emory and Princeton in the coming weeks and then USC at the end of the month (fingers crossed). I haven't heard anything from Columbia or Yale, but I sincerely doubt I will seeing as how they've already sent out invitations to interview/visit according to the GradCafe surveys.

Looking forward to hearing all kinds of good news from everybody and hopefully meeting some of you thoughout this recruitment season :)

Congratulations on the Berkeley offer! If I were you, I'd take it -- Karl Britto is one of the few people who works specifically on east asian francophone literature. It is unlikely that you will get into Yale. As I warned in the beginning of this season, Yale will only consider applications from future North African specialists. Any deviation and they will reject you, as the extraordinary Chris Miller is retiring (he is on phased retirement starting this semester).

Good luck with the rest of the interviews and applications, everyone! Feel free to PM me if you have questions about interviews. I interviewed at many of these schools a few years ago (and attended their visits). It's weird how Harvard did not interview you all before sending waiting list decisions. Harvard was rather unsuccessful with recruitment last year, so, if it happens again, you all will probably get in :)

@ayay Congrats on the Berkeley acceptance! How were your other Skype interviews? I also have the NYU one coming up next week!

Ahhh thank you! I've had three Skype interviews so far, and they've all been quite different and I've certainly improved after each one. Expect lots of questions about your research interests, writing sample, why that program, but also some standard job interview questions like "what are your strengths/weaknesses?" I honestly got some questions that I did not anticipate with some interesting perspectives on my research and my ideas, and just had to wing it...sometimes that worked, other times it didn't...

As for those of you wondering about whether the interviews are in English or French, prepare for both. For the most part, mine have been in English with 1 or 2 questions in French, so don't be surprised when a professor suddenly starts busting out some French at you! These kinds of questions though haven't been too intense; they've been really basic questions. They just wanna see how you sound/if you can actually speak French. Good luck y'all!!

Hello everyone !

I just finished submitting applications to Romance Language/French Studies PhD programs at Harvard, Brown, Cornell, Boston University and NYU. Does anyone have any experience with hearing back or with the programs at any of these schools?

I noticed most of the schools that I applied to have at least one student who received their master's from the same school that I did, plus I am currently still in France working part time as a program assistant for a US university's study abroad program and am a full-time student.

Does anyone have any advice for reaching out to individual professors? I've sent one email to far to Gretchen Schultz at Brown and have also been in contact with a current student at Brown and at Cornell.

Any advice/words of wisdom are appreciated! Thank you!

I received my Cornell acceptance on January 30, though I’m sure the date changes every year! I also currently go to Cornell, so feel free to message me if you have questions. I’m curious to know which professors you’re interested in contacting there!

Just received and email from the Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Minnesota- I've been placed on the waitlist,  and i'm ranked in the third position. He mentioned that the past two years, the first person of the waitlist has been admitted, and so has the second person last year. Let's hope they get to the third person this year? LOL

I have applied to Brown, LSU and UVA.

I have an interview with UVA on February 19 via Skype. Anyone has heard from Brown?? I know applications at LSU are due early February so we will hear from them slightly later I guess.

I am interested in 17th century Theater and 20th century Julian Green.

This has just been stuck in my head all day.

"It seems I'm spending so much time waiting
And when you can't make up your mind, I'm waiting for you.
If that's what it requires then waiting's what I'll do.
So hurry yourself up, I'm waiting."
