Hey Everyone! I wanted to see if anyone else is applying to Spring 2019 at Hunter for social work? I applied and am having my in-person interview next Monday. Really nervous! Any tips or past experiences? Thanks!

Wow, I searched for this 2 minutes after you posted.  I have my interview tomorrow.  I've been reading through past posts to ease my general anxiety-a few can be found here: https://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/19092-msw-group-interview-at-hunter-collegesuggestions/

https://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/67738-msw-applications-for-spring-2016-huntersilberman/?page=2

From everything I have read and heard from others, the process is very relaxed.  The general feedback is the interviewers are looking to suss out why you want to be a social worker, why Hunter, why the accelerated (and can you handle the financial and time commitment of the accelerated program), and then a few thought exercises around real-world situations (specific populations, challenging placements, etc.).

I'll try to update with my feedback on Wednesday.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Yea I've looked around and seen those posts as well. It would be amazing if you could update after the interview. Hope it goes well! I am doing the OYR accelerated program, are you doing that one too?

Hey! I had an interview yesterday (10/16/18) and was notified through the portal that I was accepted today. In addition to that thread, I would suggest being aware of social/systemic injustices. Hunter focuses heavily on social justice and they want you to speak to that. Best of luck!

Me too! Congrats!   I was expecting a couple of very anxious weeks.

Agree with the above re. social/systemic injustices.  The why social work and Hunter questions were as expected.  The team-based scenarios were pretty much along the same lines as other threads described (e.g. no "right answer," but my sense was that they shouldn't be answered too quickly or simply without identifying  nuance, presenting reasoned explanation, and thinking about individual, culture, systems of power and oppression, etc.) .
