Since a bunch of us are just sitting here twiddling our thumbs, I thought it might be fun to shift the conversation to something a little more fun!

If you're currently researching or hope to start soon, what excites you about your work?

For me, I just found a HUGE data set that I'm really thrilled to run through my analysis! On a larger scale, I enjoy that my research may have practical applications for the people I care about!

ETA: As an aside, this thread does have the ulterior motive of reminding me that the waiting is worth it and that the work can be fulfilling!

I'm in the second-year of my PhD program, and starting to work on my dissertation proposal in more detail while finishing up my coursework. I am very excited about the prospect about digging in more to a question I find fascinating to really understand what is going on and hopefully write and publish some articles related to the social phenomenon I am studying!

Though I'm not in Sociology, what excites me about my research is that I'm focusing on groups that are overlooked and shouldn't be given their extensive needs.

That's always a really exciting stage! Moving from theory to action is a nice boost for the academic ego :)

And it's so important to do so! I truly believe we have a duty to work with and draw attention to historically overlooked populations.

Great thread!

My research interests were born out of my philosophy thesis. Although I still need some guidance in the specific direction, I'd say I am really excited by the idea of comparative institutional norms especially as it relates with development and economic growth.

Also fascinated by the relationship between social norms themselves and institutions (especially public). So this may take place in the form of how outdated laws may still remain the norm and continue to oppress groups, etc

Hoping the excitement of it all sees me through my PhD!
