johndiligent Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 So the season's over, I was accepted to several MA programs, made my decision last week and I'm very happy about it. At last, for the first time since I started working on my applications in August, I can finally, finally relax and feel satisfied. Applying to grad school is over. And then it hit me. I'll have to restart the whole process again in just a year and a half, for 2012 PhD applications! GAH! Will it ever end?!
Jae B. Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 At least you're completely decided. And you have another chance! This is my last degree -- so I'm under pressure to pick the best conclusion to my academic career. A regret-minimizing choice. It's going to be tough!
TMP Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I did it. Don't worry. The time flies! By then, you will have much better grounding on what academia's all about and can write SOPs to knock those academics' socks off when you use the "right" buzzwords...
Squawker Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Yeah, just think about the autumn months when you were desperately grasping for more things to add to your CV. Now there's going to be ANOTHER DEGREE on there, and the skills that come with it. You'll be in a much better position for applying. For me, there will be time to re-take the GRE, improve my language skills, and submit a paper for publication. And, having been through all this, we'll know what to expect and I doubt it will be quite as confusing a task the second time around. I'm sure that in a year or two I'll be back on this website moaning about how much I hate my life, but for now that's a distant worry.
johndiligent Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 It's not the applications that worry me but having to go through another six months worth of WAITING.
nycrican2 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I agree with johndiligent, applying is really the easy part, it is the waiting that is the real killer.
