ashwel11 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Anyone applying for American Studies programs for this upcoming fall? I've been searching for a thread, but I don't think one is up yet.
puddingpop Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 I applied to one american studies program, a few cultural studies programs in Asia, and a visual studies program.
SpaceMaker Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Hello all, I have applied to one american studies program so far. I might apply to another one with a January deadline. My other applications are in geography and anthropology.
ashwel11 Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 Awesome! I waiting to hear back from 4 American Studies Programs (3 Ph.D. and 1 MA) and 2 African American Studies programs.

Hopefully others who have applied to similar programs trickle in during the cycle.
histofsci Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Good luck to all who applied! I applied to a few Am Studies programs (Harvard, NYU, Brown) and then several history of science programs.

I have never been able to chat with them via email. I did speak to a super helpful grad student..

I will say, though, that most of the conversations I had with professors in any dept (I applied mostly to History of Science programs) were brief and official. I didn't hear back from anyone in Am Studies at Yale (I didn't end up applying to that program) or NYU.

It is a great program and the faculty I chatted with was super nice as well as a graduate student I spoke with. I will also share I had similar exp with Brown. One faculty was super nice but another one was well...

Cool. I emailed a couple and found them to be very kind. They all said they were not part of the selection committee this year but were encouraging.
AnafromMx Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 Hi everyone! I just saw in the "Results" section that USC and Minnesota have already started contacting candidates. I applied to USC and haven't heard anything form them.... should I assume anything?
noneckmonsters Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 ugh, that email from Yale about a webinar for diversity applicants broke my heart today.... THIS IS TORTURE!!!!
Blackbird7 Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Hey guys anyone have any updates? This wait.... oh my goodness!

That was the only American studies program I applied to in this cycle tho. Definitely happy and surprised by it. I still have 9 more schools to hear back from however which is less stressful but I would like to just now so I can make some major plans soon. Thankfully school is back in session so now I am busy again and dont have time to worry about it as much.

As far as the Yale webinar, yeah it happened last year and had folks freaked out.. Yale tends to send out info mid to late Feb and early March so hang tight. Hopefully you have a great outcome. ashwel11 1
