SlyStone Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Looks like I'm the first admit of the season. I have just received the manila envelope indicating that I am a research grantee to Finland. Heartiest congratulations!! It sure is making me nervous that the envelopes have started coming in. Apparently the Netherlands takes a bit longer for various reasons, so I have a more few weeks to stress. Go celebrate!
Julakan Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Hey! Congrats to those that just found out. I just received my notification that I have been awarded the Full grant to study in France. It came to my Permanent Address but they may be linked to the fact that my current address is in West Africa. Hope that you all find out soon. Let me know if there are any other France people out there...

tbarrera Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Ugh, this is making me even more anxious for these next two weeks to fly by (given last year's spreadsheet most of Caribbean/Latin America ppl found out around the end of March/beg of April). Seems like they aren't trying to get them in sooner this year. More waiting ... Congrats to all those who just heard you're in! So exciting to hear everyone's plans, especially those bringing significant others along . With me it's kind of the opposite. My boyfriend's in the host country (working). So he's definitely wanting to hear back asap to know if he should stay (given that I would get the fulbright) or return. And yes, it's crazy that this totally designates where we will be living in a few months. It's not just like oh, I'm moving to another state. It's another country, and involves paperwork and agh! Ok, gotta get back to writing a paper. Still need to graduate hahahaha.
crimsonengineer87 Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Congrats to everyone that's moving on! VERY EXCITING! Now you can plan your life! Man, I went home for a few days (spring break) thinking I'd get something in the mail, but am soooo nervous for getting back (I go to school 5 hours away) and checking my mail!!! Ahhh ... LOfi, did you apply for a DAAD grant? (you're applying to Germany, right?) Again, CONGRATS everyone and don't forget to update the spreadsheet: http://spreadsheets0...=CNHpkd4P#gid=0 EDIT: check your information on the spreadsheet to make sure it lines up with your name. Some people may not have added an entire row when inserting ... someone else was doing my research in civil engineering in Germany ... and I thought, wow these are similar ... well, until I saw the email. ; ) Edited March 14, 2011 by crimsonengineer87
Jonhecht89 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 It looks like I didn't read the earlier posts closely enough. Congratulations to all those who were also admitted. It kind of takes the sting out of being shut out of phd programs.
nazema Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Same here. I am on spring break this week and I am just going to be checking the mail a lot even though last year Bangladesh applicants heard in April. Congrats to everyone that's moving on! VERY EXCITING! Now you can plan your life! Man, I went home for a few days (spring break) thinking I'd get something in the mail, but am soooo nervous for getting back (I go to school 5 hours away) and checking my mail!!! Ahhh ... eule Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Changed my name here as it was too obvious who I was for many people and I'd rather me semi-anonymous (used to be gracello)... THE WAITING IS KILLING ME! BUT, some good news for those of you worried about permanent address/current address interactions and Spring break: e-mailed my in-school adviser for Fulbright, who said that most students receive an e-mail followed by their hard copy letter. Has this been the case for those of you who've already heard?
SlyStone Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 This is interesting...according to last year's spreadsheet, Finland applicants didn't find out until early April, and now they're the first to find out. And we can't forget that "finalist" emails came a lot earlier than expected as well. I'm thinking many of us will be hearing earlier than we expect.
James Lindsey Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I heard Saturday via manila envelope! UK Partnership Fulbright to the University of Edinburgh, Scotland! Ill add it to the spreadsheet. Good luck to everyone stalking the postman! Message me if anyone else is headed to the UK.
Ranita Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Oh geez. Just got this email from Jermaine. Of course I read way too much in to each and every tiny piece of correspondence I get from these guys, but this is making me worry -- could they be thinking about cancelling the program in Egypt next year?? Particularly concerned about the "making a decision on the overall status of the Egypt program for next year" part. "A colleague at the U.S. State Department wants to know when is the absolute latest that you can be notified about whether you will be offered U.S. Student Fulbright grants to Egypt for 2011/2012. I don’t know the full details/rationale behind the request, but have the feeling that it might be to get a sense of how much time they have to work with in terms of finalizing decisions (and making a decision on the overall status of the Egypt program for next year) before some of you will need to begin accepting competing fellowship, employment, and graduate school offers."

It kind of takes the sting out of being shut out of phd programs. Hey, where are you based if you don't mind me asking? I'm waiting to find out about Finland too and there was nothing in the mailbox today. Chicago mail's notoriously slow though...

LOfi Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 LOfi, did you apply for a DAAD grant? (you're applying to Germany, right?) Yeah I applied to Germany but I didn't apply for a DAAD. It wasn't on my radar but wish I had applied for a DAAD. Congrats on your DAAD! Knowing on the DAAD probably lessens the anticipation of the Fulbright a little.

salt Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) These notification letters are all being sent out from New York City right? Or are they coming from DC? Edited March 15, 2011 by salt

Hux Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 accepted to Finland, I'll be in Lapland, anyone else ready for eternal sunshine and cold?
172169 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 These notification letters are all being sent out from New York City right? Or are they coming from DC? Letters are being sent out from New York.
Skyfire Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Oh man. It seems like the European countries are all announcing... come on Spain! Lets see some results! I'm going to be making the 15 minute drive to the PO box everyday now... ::crazy eye twitch:: soooo tired of waiting!
tweety11226 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Hopefully, I hear from Korea's ETA Program soon!! I am anxious as well since I just declined the CLS Scholarship for Korea. Please don't make me regret rejecting that scholarship
rook Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Hey everyone, I'm a finalist for Switzerland. (Relax, no news here yet!) I wanted to get everyone's feedback on some financial aid woes. I'm not sure yet, but it looks like my home institution may relinquish my financial award if I spend next year overseas. That is, I could LOSE my fourth year of funding for my PhD! Sure, they say I will be able to "apply" for funding for the following year. (And I already know what that means ...) This sounds CRAZY to me! And it should, right? Please, someone tell me this is not normal! Have other grad students looked into their institution's policies? Tell us what you've found, would you? Thanks!

Ranita, I hope they keep it at least for this year so you can go. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you (and all others trying to go to the Middle East). Speaking of which...I wonder if I should email Jermaine about Bahrain? I didn't think things would get like this over there. The king declared a 3 month state of emergency, and the US is advising Americans to leave. That can't mean good things for the Fulbright there.
James Lindsey Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Congratulations!!! Did you get an interview? Thanks. I had a phone interview.
josedob Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 To whoever uses the alias evellynprice on the forum who updated the chart in the last 24 hours for ETA Slovak Republic - could you send me a personal message? Congrats! Research Grant applicant to Slovak Republic, interested in learning more about your acceptance letter.
