Talking through the process is comforting lol... The-Fourth-Dimension 1

No idea, but I would guess taking that risk in showing new work would be seen as a good thing. I think you made the (brave) right call, for you! You're getting closer to the light at the end of the stress tunnel! Pickle555 1
Forms Without Formula Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Hunter interviews will probably go out next week based on past forums but the closer it gets the harder it is to wait!! Just woke up from a dream that I received the interview request email but then it wasn't actually, just a promotional email, can't even catch a break when I'm unconscious!! annaconda, SadPainter and SwampLord 3
SwampLord Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Got my rejection from USF this morning, in case anyone was curious about that.
LizRAE Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Any ceramicists in this forum applying this year?
slickjaketheruler Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Received an offer from MECA today via phone. They gave me a scholarship but it’s not nearly enough to cover attending the school. katfude5 and Strawberrycat 2

That's amazing that you were able to finish new works after submitting your application! Bravo. I don't think the interview process is a test of any sort, so there is no wrong approach. Your submission probably reveals productivity as one of your strengths. I submitted four images of works that I felt would best narrate what I hope to work on while at Yale... 3 were from my portfolio, 1 was older and intended to support an origin story of sorts.

I have an interview with the graphic design dept but i havent been asked to submit any supplemental works, they just said i have to screenshare to talk about them. i'm a bit confused
hibiscusleaves Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Just had an interview with VCU Graphic Design department. I think it went very well, I'm actually expecting good news! The faculty was extremely nice, they seemed interested in who I am as an artist, and the department seems very welcoming and accepting of individuality. For anyone wondering, the results will be out around 22nd of February.

Thanks for sharing! I agree, that any approach will most likely suffice. It's always hard for me to tell how much is already determined prior to the interview, but you make a good point. Best of luck!! seelamfa22 1

recyclable Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Friends! Just got the University of Michigan-Stamps MFA Interview invite OMFG! annaconda, chunkeymonkey, whitewhales and 2 others 5
chunkeymonkey Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 I was also just wondering - I read on one of the past year's forums that you should email the faculty who interviews you to thank them etc. Does anyone actually do this in practice?

Yes, I do! Reiterate that I'm excited about the program, mentioning a certain thing we discussed in the interview. Also, found out about Rutgers rejection thanks to this forum. Still no email from them, weird and kind of tacky? Stay positive y'all!!! It still seems like a lot of schools are just beginning the process. kaflake Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Just got invited to interview for the MFA Program in Design at Rutgers not at all what I expected since I applied for the MFA in Visual arts.
kaflake Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Any advice for someone interviewing for Design? I’m genuinely shocked that the design department thought I was a good candidate. I don’t have a lot of technical experience or any idea what I’d do with a design degree but the Rutgers design program looks so interesting…

My advice would be to open your mind to the realm where design and fine art overlap. Imagine yourself and your work in that gray area. Check out the work of the students coming out of that program as well as the work of the faculty. It seems like an interdisciplinary and modern program, I'm guessing you'll be surprised by what constitutes "design" for those artists. No need to worry about what you'd "do with a design degree." You may end up doing exactly what you imagine doing with a visual art degree, and that's valid and reasonable.
