It has happened to me .... and it's a bit disturbing.

When I was doing the admitted students visits, many of us quickly figured out who each other were from the gradcafe.

Was it something that happened at a specific meeting, or just the fact that you met someone who you knew from the interwebz? Considering how small some fields can get, I imagine that's a big reason why a lot of people don't join TGC... it's too hard to remain anonymous.
