And there's the official Yale rejection letter!

same here, not surprising.

Are there any UvA admits / rejects in American Politics? I think most responses went out earlier in the week but I havent heard anything yet.

I can claim one of the minnesota admits (comparative). What a relief after no news from Princeton and Berkeley - I was starting to think I was going to get nothing at all this year

I just called the Graduate Admissions Office at Princeton to ask whether all their notifications for accepted students have been sent out.

Quite to my surprise, the lady told me that supposedly NONE have been sent out at all so far. That is really confusing, given the claims on the board. Were all of these notifications "informal" by faculty members?

E-mail from faculty yesterday and then a grad coordinator follow-up e-mail today regarding the recruitment weekend.

General question: Why do applications ask what other schools you are applying to? Do they use that information? If so, how?

A couple profs said it's for administrative purposes (i.e. to see which schools students consider to be peer schools). One prof told me he glances at it to see if an applicant's research interests align with the list of schools. The prof said this helps him figure out whether you were serious enough about applications to determine which ones were good fits.

Quasi-formal email for the waitlist - the director of grad studies sent it, but it was like "just wanted to let you know, you'll get the formal one soon."

A friend of mine at Georgetown said the adcomm has met, but results won't come out till the first week of March.

I'm going to be a nervous wreck that week.

thats exactly what i was wondering about -- the impact on perception of an applicant's credibility. i guess something like that wouldn't be a major factor in the decision process either way though.

Got accepted by one of my safety schools (Minnesota) and rejected by one of my reach schools (Yale) on the same day. Can't say I'm surprised. At least I only have to wait on Harvard and Columbia...

May I inquire as to your subfield?

Don't know how it happened, but after the carnage, I got my acceptance at Yale about 20 minutes ago. Funding information to come in the mail...I can't believe it. There's hope for those who haven't heard.

The Yale carnage today is overwhelming the results page. Congrats to the survivors and my condolences to those who were dinged.

Yale Rejection Day 2011. Never forget.

Yes, congrats to all who survived! I was one of the rejections, sadly, and Yale was probably my top choice. Two good friends who graduated from Yale's PhD program, though, told me they had to apply three times before they were accepted--so perhaps that should make some of us feel better.

Does anyone have any idea of when Brown will be sending out results? Its the last school I really need to hear from. If not, then its a clincher and UCLA here I come.

Anyone want to claim the MIT acceptances? I've been waiting (im)patiently for those to come out, and I'd love to hear anything about it beyond the info on the results page.

EDIT: Whoops, Ashlett beat me to it, haha. Seriously, though, I really am curious.

Wow...just wow....Wisconsin hates me SOOOOOOO MUCH that they just rejected me AGAIN! This time via email...dry.gif

Same thing just happened to me.

Claiming one of the Columbia acceptances. After getting rejected from Yale today, I didn't expect to get in!

May I inquire as to your subfield?

Comparative politics, with a regional focus on Latin America

I'm contemplating sending back an unpleasant reply...

"Dear Wisconsin, I got the message the first time. Since you apparently think that messages need repeating, I will oblige:

Dear Wisconsin, I got the message the first time."

Ok maybe you shouldn't--after all, maybe someday you'll want to apply for an opening there.

please tell me someone else can share in the misery of not having not heard anything, good or bad, from any school, over the past week. i felt sure today was going to be a day of responses. i still haven't heard from 7 programs; how is this even possible this late in the game?!

i am beyond frustrated.
