Hey, I'm new to Grad Cafe and this thread. What an awesome resource for the frightened, hopeful, and obsessed! I'm still waiting to hear word one from any of my programs.

I applied to the following:

—University of Michigan, Personality and Social Contexts PhD

—University of Vermont, Social Psychology PhD

—University of Washington, Social and Personality Psychology PhD

—University of Alberta, Social Psychology PhD

—University of British Columbia, Social Psychology PhD

—York University (Toronto), Social Psychology MA

Has anyone heard any rumblings from or about these programs? From the rest of the thread, I've gathered that my not hearing from Michigan means it's probably a "no." Eager to hear if anyone knows anything--about POIs or the programs themselves. Thanks!

may your word be the case! wonder what's taking those folks so long since SPSP is next week too.

Many social faculty use SPSP as a chance to discuss applicants with recommenders and other POIs, so it is not uncommon for social programs to make admissions decisions after the conference.

I heard (from a professor there) UBC Social typically starts reviewing around mid to late Jan. That is all I know.

Hey, all. I am also new to GradCafe and this thread — seems like a great way to feed my neuroses surrounding this brutal, exciting process.

I am applying to

UVA (Wilson, Clore, Haidt, Nosek)

NYU (Kruger, Jost, Tyler, Van Bavel)

Cornell (Gilovich and Dunning; sadly, Gilovich isn't taking new grad students)

Colorado (Van Boven)

Arizona State (Kwan)

Florida State (Baumeister)

Northeastern (DeSteno, Barrett)

Princeton (Pronin)

U Chicago (Epley, Kinzler)

Waterloo (M. Ross, Spencer, Eibach)

Tufts (Sommers)

Ohio State (Libby)

U Mich (Nisbett, Kitayama, Kross)

Harvard (Wegner)

Yale (Bargh, Napier, Salovey)

Good luck to everyone here. I enjoyed reading this thread and seeing people who are going through the same thing I am.

So, thoughts on Daryl Bem? I recently got a copy of Feeling the Future but am yet to finish it. It'll be the talk of the town when we interview.

I heard from a current grad student that ASU just met this week to discuss their short lists.... I don't think they've set a date for recruitment weekend yet.

I havnt heard anything from Cornell....

unofficially out at Harvard ... i guess so much was expected.

Still waiting on word from Cornell, Maryland, and Emory. Anyone hear from any of these places?

I hate checking my email every three minutes on the dot, but I do it anyways. I applied to ten schools; my checking account still hurts:

Arizona State University

Florida State University

University of Kansas

University of Hawaii

Texas A & M

DePaul University

Purdue University

New Mexico State University

Northwestern University

Saint Louis University

I'm pretty sure Northwestern is a no-no. I snooped on their webiste a week or so ago and saw that graduate interview day was scheduled on the fourth of February. Given that I heard nothing from them, then that is out of the question. Looks like FSU may be out too as someone posted that they sent out invites.

Have not heard anything else so far.

I think I'm officially going crazy now. I held it together last week, but now I'm at the point of thinking...come on already!!

It seems that the more time passes between when applications are sent and now, the more the anxiety about this stuff. Any response would be nice at this point, even a no!

Anyone have any information on where ASU, KU, and TAMU are at this point regarding interviews and admissions?

I can empathize! I don't know if anytime during this process I've had my wits about me. I've applied to UVa, Yale, UMass, UT-Austin and UC Santa Barbara. Have not heard from anyone yet. During my personal correspondence with Dr. Haidt (my POI) in UVa, he mentioned that he liked my personal statement but I'm a long shot because of my GRE and GPA... I still applied, I should probably assume the worst. I just hope they'll be nice enough to at least send me a rejection notice... would not like to be in application purgatory!

Congratulations to those who've had some positive news, good luck to the rest!

I do know that Virginia is still in the process of sending out interview invitations, however, I believe Haidt is going to be a visiting professor at NYU's business school next year and thus is most likely not taking on any new students. Sorry to be the one to tell you that... :(

i was aware of Dr. Haidt's plans... initially he said he would be in UVA and accepting students, and then later in the process told me that he won't be. Life happens! But, one more reason I'm not optimistic about this process. I'm also hoping to work with Ben Converse. Oh well!

Has anyone heard anything about Michigan State University, Washington University in St. Louis, or Indiana University Bloomington regarding their social psychology PhD programs? Unfortunately, Indiana and MSU don't even have a site that allows prospective students to check their application status. In the past, I know Indiana tends to be pretty late to send out acceptances/rejections.

Any info you could provide would be appreciated, Thanks!!!

Anyone have any information about Cornell (social), Maryland (social), or Emory (cognition and development)?

Whom did you apply to work with? My advisor, a Cornell alumnus, recently told me Tom Gilovich isn't taking any new students. I didn't hear about anyone else. I'm hoping there will be more gossip floating around after SPSP.

Also, my advisor said Cornell got in touch with him around Valentine's day, but that was decades ago.

My primary POI is Pizarro. However, I did list Gilovich and Dunning as POIs also.

Hello all! I decided instead of just stalking the boards and results I may as well join! I applied to UCSB, UCSC, WashU, ASU, U of AZ, Lehigh, Miami University, U of AK, and U of VT. So far, I've been contacted by aPOI at Arkansas and will be meeting with him at SPSP. I sent out an email to five other POIs inviting them to meet with me at SPSP and have heard back from one so far at ASU, informing me he's no longer doing stereotype threat research. This makes me a little sad as I was trying to convey in my application that while the majority of my research as a master's student has been stereotype threat, I'm interested more broadly in group identity and intergroup relations.

Ah well. On the bright side, I figure I will get a preview of how my admits will go by seeing what is said in response to my invitation to meet at SPSP.

I just saw a result posted today for U of Kansas. Anyone else hear anything from them?
