So I am trying to make a decision between Rush and MGH. They are very similar programs and I am leaning towards Rush right now because I like Chicago better than Boston, the quarter system sounds like a nice change of pace, and the whole Rush community was extremely friendly. Is anyone else in a similar position who can give some constructive advice to further my decision between the two programs???

PMed you

I just accepted CU Boulder today!! I attended the open house on Friday and I am very excited about their program.

I can't wait to move to Colorado!!

Anyone on here interested in talking about sharing an apartment let me know :)

I spoke with CSUN's office staff, she said we should hear from them in a week or so. She understands that we're all waiting and knows we have to give notice to other schools by April 15th - which is a Sunday, weird that it's the 15th and not the 13th or the 16th. I do think she's doing her best to get the process moved along. Another unofficial source told me she thinks we might hear this Friday.

I spoke with a graduate student that I know and she told me to go ahead and accpept the offer I already have (CSULA) to secure that spot and I can rescind the offer if I do get accepted into CSUN and if I want that instead. I don't like doing that, but she said it happens and the schools seem to understand that and they have enough people waitlisted that the spot will get filled.

I didn't expect to get into CSULA, so I need to find out more about their program. Does anyone know more about CSULA?

Hi niccig:

Thanks so much for sharing this info. I am about ready to pull my hair out over this waiting game. Being waitlisted at all my other schools and then not knowing anything from Northridge is not a fun position to be in. Not sure if school will work out for me this year.....

Blergh to CSUN! It's not just unfair to us students but also seems weird to do to themselves - don't they want "the best" (I put that in quotes cause loads of awesome people are still rejected) people to go there?? I guess they have enough applicants they can afford to have them go elsewhere because they didn't get a reply in time. I have to put a $400 deposit down for SDSU by the 15th as well.

I don't know much about LA other than they rejected me this morning! But I've heard general good things. It would be wise to ask them how difficult it is for students to get the classes they need to graduate on time. It seems like some CSU's really have an issue with that, even on the grad level. Though I think being in a cohort (everyone taking their classes together) reduces that risk - I don't know if LA does it that way or not. Do they require a deposit? Is CSUN worth losing that money?

I agree! I still have a school that I haven't heard from...and I'm no longer considering that school, so I'm not worried about it...but it is just really weird to me that these schools would risk losing students by not making their decisions until so close to April 15th, or even after that date.

Congrats to everyone who has made a decision!

I'm not sure how much the budget crisis is impacting the admissions process. This current semester the department was directed to reduce class enrollment for the UG classes - some of my classes are only half the size. The CSUs saying they may postpone Spring Undergrad admissions until the following Fall and even postpone the Fall admissions if the tax isn't passed at the Nov. election, may also be having some influence here.

I know someone who was an undergrad at CSULA and she's going to get me in touch with some people that are currently at CSULA, so I can ask questions. It's difficult to know much about the program. As far as I know, I don't have to pay a deposit. In my acceptance letter they said they hoped everyone could graduate within 2 years, but that means doing the Summer quarters and budget cuts may affect their Summer offerings, so they can no longer guarantee the 2 years. CSUN will take me longer (2-3 years if I don't do clinic over the Summers and I have 2 classes need for certification to work in CA schools), but CSULA's quarter system may not be doable for my family. Being a full-time student on semester set-up at CSUN is hectic enough. I also have all my connections with professors and fellow students and a support network already set-up there - that counts for a lot to get through the course work.

But it may not be a decision I have to make - I may not get into CSUN. And I won't know for several more days.

Does anyone know when clarion or Jackson State will make deciisions!!

I'm taking my prerequisites at Clarion now. I didn't apply there, but I know that they've already notified their current students about decisions (I think they told them in person last week or the week before). Sorry I don't have any more info for you. I'm a commuter and am not very involved on campus.

Declined SJSU and SDSU today, going to UT Austin this fall. So relieved that this whole process is finally over.

Thank you guys for your help and support during the past months, you are all very resourceful.

Congrats to those who've made their decisions and finger crossed for those who're still waiting, I'm sure the best always comes at last.

Any future SLPs going Austin? =]

Are you considering CSUN over SDSU? If so, do you mind sharing why?

Well I don't really know...the impression I get is that SDSU is a better program but you know how hard it is to get information out of CSUs! Also I know SDSU is ''ranked'' and good for research but I'm not terribly interested in doing research (at this point). I'm def. leaning towards SDSU but mostly just want to be able to know I made an informed decision - I'm almost kind of hoping they reject me so I won't be in any limbo!!

I'm going down this week to check out the campus and talk to an advisor more about the program. If I happened to get into CSUN I could work that into the trip too.

Do you (or anyone) happen to know much about SDSU, CSUN or SJSU? I'd be ever so grateful for any information I can add to my patchy collection! The more opinions the better!

Just officially accepted NEU and received conformation that I am an admitted student!!! Now I have to tell other schools to remove me from their wait/acceptance lists . I have already been removed from Northern Colorado (I didn't confirm that I wanted to stay on) and Touro's deadline has passed (although I will still email them) so that just leaves Redlands and Georgia State (I'm staying on Marquette's for now). Ugh! I don't like rejecting people it feels so mean haha. And I didn't think I would be doing so before hearing from St. Johns and UVA. No idea what is going on with those schools but for my own peace of mind I would like to know what my status is...Good luck to everyone else in their decision making process.

I know! It does feel so mean for whatever weird reason. I turned down St. Cloud last week and waited until I was officially in NAU's system (as of today) to turn down ETSU which was my second choice. It felt like I was breaking up with someone because I really was interested in those two schools and felt they had so much to offer.

But congrats on your decision! If you get off Marquette's waitlist, what do you think you'll end up doing? I'm not sure what I would do if I was on my #1s waitlist and there was the prospect of getting in. Tough decision but best of luck in any circumstance.

It depends on when I get off (if I do which given my place I doubt). They said that once they have gone through acceptances and if necessary onto the wait list they will email those of us still on the wait list to ask if we want to stay on the "emergency wait list" in case there is any more movement. I don't think I would stay on the emergency wait list as I would assume at that point I would get off well into the summer and by then I'll already have a place to live, be mentally ready to move to Boston etc. But that is a decision I would have to make when I get that email. If I were to be admitted off the wait list in their first cycle then I will say yes (as they will likely fill it by the beginning of May).

Hard to still sit on a wait list but glad to have somewhere to go. One of my dad's favorite stories is about how he (a native midwestener) was wait listed at University of Michigan (his top choice) for law school and ended up not getting off. He attended UCLA where he met my mom who nearly 30 years later he is still married to today. Point is you never know where life will take you and going to a "second or third choice" grad school may make all the difference in the world.

Thanks for sharing that story. Things like that actually make me feel a lot better! :)

I am thinking similarly to you. I am not totally giving up on St. Xavier yet...but in the very likely situation that I am not one of the beginning round people to get off of the waitlist (I will probably wait until early-mid May), then I am giving up on it and fully committing myself to my second choice. If that happens, I will just accept it as what was meant to happen, and assume that there is something great there waiting for me, educationally or otherwise.

Congratulations to everyone who has made decisions on programs! It is really awkward to write some of those e-mails declining spots, but schools have to understand that we're being forced into some tough decisions. Moving to a new place is always a little scary, but I also think it's a lot of fun. I like a good adventure! :D

Is anyone else joining me in Columbus this fall? I would really love to find a way to meet some folks in my class before the semester starts.

Best of luck to all those still deciding. Sending positive vibes your way!

Amberwaves... Have you made a decision of where you are going?

I agree! I was not expecting to feel badly about turning down offers, but I do. I'm sure the schools will live.

I'm turning down offers at Rush, MGH, Columbia, Pacific U, PDX State and UMD today -- hope that helps some people on waitlists!

Hi engrdad,

I'm pretty sure I'm going to MGH. I still haven't heard from Gallaudet though, so I'm giving it one more day before I decline the other offers.

Has anyone turned down an offer from California State University East Bay? I am desperately hoping to get off their waiting list.... :(
