triciadawn Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Did anyone hear from Ole Miss? Someone on the spreadsheet reports a rejection from the department website, but I don’t see where all round 2 notifications went out.

How are you prepping for your interview? I have my interview for California College of the Arts nonfiction coming up this week. I'm thinking of taking quick notes (nothing detailed, just enough to spark my memory) to reference in case I blank. I'm planning on reviewing my portfolio essays, SOP, my influences, and my goals. Not sure what else to do! 0a/0w/0r/5p/1 interview bluebikeyikes 1

No word from them and this is the latest update I could find on their website: https://mfaenglish.olemiss.edu/the-mfa-faculty-has-notified-all-phase-ii-applicants/ - "This is an announcement that the MFA faculty has notified all Phase II applicants as of 02/07/2022. Thank you to all who applied." There's no update for 2023 let alone 2024. I'm only just learning that this is how they notify applicants about stage 2 (being as I applied to them last minute), but had I known that they don't even bother to reach out to those rejected and people have to dig through their website like scavenging hawks searching for indirect notices to decode, I'd have saved my energy altogether. triciadawn and CorneliusBreadicus 2

No news on their department site (i.e. the link they gave to check when they confirmed they received the application). The only notification on the department site is from a previous year and does not apply to us since it is not for our application cycle. triciadawn 1

I haven’t but Im also curious as to when they call or notify those moving forward. Is it on the day that they post the round 2 notification or do they contact individuals prior? It’s so hard to find anything for them even after digging through last years forum. I guess we’ll just have to bear the suspense for just a couple more weeks. Edited February 6 by Livelovelife24

Not sure what else to do! 0a/0w/0r/5p/1 interview Thank you! I'm doing pretty much the same. I'm writing a summary of my current project so I can deliver a pitch/description off the top of my head, and I'm planning to do a bit more research on SAIC's faculty since I'm not sure who will be conducting the interview. Since it's a pretty interdisciplinary program based on their website, I might also talk about my interests in soft sculpture / other art mediums if they ask. Best of luck to you! I hope your interview this week goes smoothly! garfieldlives 1

It is exciting, and it's a fantastic program. Can you (or another waitlist-er) do the lord's work for the rest of us poets and inquire with them as to how many applicants they received this year? A week ago or so I got an email from University of Idaho that had the subject line beginning with "The University of Idaho's Creative Writing Program Welcomes...." I can't even begin to express the emotion that came over me only to see that it was about a new addition to their core faculty. What a way to phrase an email. Chex, seeleimraum, ajcam and 1 other 1 3
prufrock_ Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I'm not sure what to think about Mississippi. Is someone contacting their dept for clarification on if the website is accurate for this year, but the date is wrong?

The listing there for the other year was there before I even applied—I remember it. Also, when I submitted they stated the reading period was until the 15th of February. I'd consider reaching out if no one's heard by the 16th but as of now I assume there still working on going through apps. Edited February 6 by GoldenTree Chex and Livelovelife24 2

Yeah, I think the person who reported the rejection on the spreadsheet was most likely mistaken. Probably did not notice the date of the announcement on the website. Let us know what they say! & 650 is a lot, but typical for larger programs. I wouldn't beat yourself up over that rejection, but am sorry to hear it nonetheless. I'd bet Michigan, Iowa, and NYU probably get 700+.

What's interesting though, is that the website says 2/7, which y'know is not the date, so I'm surprised that they not only didn't notice the year being off but also did not notice the day? That rejection was also submitted on 2/1 from what I remember so it was a full week off from the wrong date. Would be a hard mistake to make if it was one. I think it's actually more likely that this person either got rejected individually or put in the wrong school but who knows, good luck to them either way. Imagine if that person get's in, would be a great feeling to get an email from a program that you thought already rejected you! Livelovelife24 1
