hi there! i have the same, not sure if it implies anything though...

yeah, I don't remember seeing it before, so I got a bit freaked out.
probably 'graduate committee' just means 'departmental review'
I think it shows the same status for everyone who has submitted all their materials.
guess I just got ahead of myself.

I got the same thing! My ut austin dashboard says it was forwarded to grad committee.

I think I remember it showing that as soon as I finished submitting my application back in November, so I think it just means that your application was submitted successfully!

P.S. I went and checked my portal just now, before hitting 'Send' on this post, and yes that is what mine says right now too. "Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review." And the status says: In Review.

hi guys,
can anyone see any updates on their ut austin portal?
mine says, 'your file has been forwarded to the graduate committee for review'
was it always there?
does it imply anything?

I think it just literally means that your app has went through. But not any indication that you will receive word soon. Just that the readers/faculty have it and can view it.

Hi everyone,

Lurker-turned-user here. I've applied to 18 different programs, 17 of which for Fiction (and 1 of which, Michener Center, for Screenwriting). I'm debating on a 19th, NCSU, due on Feb. 1st, because I mainly write speculative fiction and I've heard that one is quite good for it (but that was also when John Kessel was there). Speaking of which, some of my top choices are ASU and Syracuse, because of their support for spec fic, and the usual JHU/UVA/Indiana etc.

Best of luck to everyone (and congrats to a few of the early A's and W's!)

0A/0W/0R/18P with a possible 19th

Looks like some schools are notifying over the weekend. Draft has a FSU fiction acceptance and there's a Wisconsin on the results page here. I hope people hear something good!

Wow, a FSU Fiction acceptance already? I'm not on Draft (I haven't used my Facebook since high school and have to reactivate my account), but that's a quick turn around, considering the app was due on the 15th. Congrats to that person, lol.

Here's to hoping for a prosperous week for all!

Hey guys—sorry to pop in so randomly but I couldn’t not say something. Whoever posted in GradCafe said they got in at Wisconsin for fiction…but it’s a poetry year at UW-M. Either they made up their acceptance or they made a mistake when entering that info. It seems 2 years ago when it was another poetry year they released all decisions on the same day. So while it’s possible this year they decided to notify accepted students early, it’s not possible anyone was accepted for fiction. Hope that clears things up before any other poetry applicants to Wisconsin panic like I did 😅

I was just thinking well that's weird I didn't apply there because it's a poetry year!

Hello and happy new week, friends! Likely there'll be news from a few schools this week: Florida State, Indiana, UIUC, Pittsbugh (interview invitations), South Carolina, UNLV, Oregon, and Miami-Ohio. Wouldn't be surprised if Minnesota and Northwestern Litowitz also made an appearance. This is only an estimate based on previous years, of course. Some of them might wait till next week or so, when the true shakeup starts. I'm all buckled in. Fasten your seat belt, folks! 💺

I'm sat, I'm ready, I'm waiting!!!

Side note, I have a long flight tomorrow - anybody have a great plane book rec?

I like my plane books on the breezy side, or something not too dense on a line by line level. I also like things that lean fabulist, something that transports me. So if this is up your alley too:

On the thriller-adjacent end of things you might try Creation Lake, Annie Bot, or Whoever You Are, Honey.

On the creepy, weird, surreal spectrum I always like anything by Sayaka Murata (Convenience Store Woman might be the more appropriate plane read than Earthlings, which is maybe too dark). I'm also really enjoying Claimed! by Gertrude Barrows Bennett. And I can't recommend Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin harder enough.

What sort of vibe are you aiming for?

Not a particularly long read, but Fredrik Backman's novelette, The Answer Is No, was entertaining.

Oh this might be the one! I literally JUST pulled Creation Lake out of a little free library a few weeks ago!

Oh man I love Schweblin so much. Great recc—

and if you’re still taking s’more @pananoprodigy then I’d give Yoko Tawada’s Paul Celan and the Trans-Tibetan Angel a try! It’s short, funny, and the language is so playful and very strange. Either that or my go-to suggestion: Javier Marìas’ A Heart So White. Safe travels!!

Can I ask something? For one of my applications I put the wrong school name in my SOP, (embarrassing I know), should I just consider it a rejection or could my other materials still give me a chance (writing sample, recommendations, etc)?

You are ok— this has happened so many times and i have seen so many posts saying they did this and still got in. No worries!

I'm officially losing my mind, I just stared at the draft notification sheet chanting "update update update update". I'm just getting over a gnarly fever so I will blame it on that

I got an email from gradcas saying I could apply to other programs and it made me so sad because I thought it was news.
