Ahh, yes, thank you.... I forgot everything I had read previously about interviews, but now I am remembering something about coming across as essentially not a know-it-all/ a-hole/whatever. Thanks for re-orienting me, lol.

You got this!!! And congrats on getting this far!

what does decisions being "staggered" mean? I'm assuming it means that decisions for multiple genres and acceptances/rejections are spread out and interspersed and not everything all at once, but I could be wrong

i think that's pretty much it? sometimes they'll come out in batches, too (often it's poetry batch vs. fiction batch, or acceptance batch vs. waitlist batch vs. rejection batch, but it can also be in batches at random)

when do vanderbilt results come out? like 2/20 right?

according to the draft spreadsheet last year the first vandy result for fiction came out on the 16th (it was a waitlist)

There is a boston u rejection (poetry) in the draft from yesterday. odd that it is the only one, unless they send out emails at random? I applied and I am assuming rejection (poetry also) but is it common for rejection emails, even in the same genre, to be sent out at different times?

Boston is totally random. They have a rolling rejection and acceptance system. I heard some people who applied last year even found out roughly where they landed (e.g. top 12% of applicants) when they got their rejection letters. Not sure if they'll do that this year.

Hey everyone! Good luck to everyone this week and congrats on the acceptances/waitlists so far. I'm not gonna lie, I'm very anxious, as I'm sure we all are; on top of all the usuals, I'm really, really hoping for an acceptance from ASU and/or Syracuse, as a spec fic writer. ASU in particular, I'm stalking my notifs for an unhealthy amount. I'm still sitting on just 1 hard rejection, and I'm considering IU and Pitt soft rejections. 0a/0w/1r/2 soft rejections/16p

We're all in this together!

Yeah I don't think there are really any fully funded "safeties" but the places with less name recognition and a generally less desirable location are going to a bit easier to get into compared to the top places-- maybe places like Wichita State, Bowling Green, West Virginia University. This page rates how competitive admission is for different programs but some of them seem inaccurate to me: 77 Fully Funded MFA Programs in Creative Writing in the US

I would think that even the least competitive fully funded programs are accepting no more than 10% of applicants but again I'm not sure about that.

Thank you! I think I made a mistake this time around by applying to the most popular schools.

I'm gonna throw up. Vandy is my dream school and now I'm thinking it's a no

lol same... do we know if it's for poetry or fiction?

If it's any consolation, it looks like Vandy only accepted three people in the fiction cohort this year, so those are some rough odds.

It isn't just this year. Three is their usual number each year. Three in fiction and three in poetry. It's one of the smallest cohorts and lowest acceptance rates.

Hey! Wanted to pop in and say I just interviewed at Stony Brook, with Julie Sheehan and Christine Kitano. They were both lovely, and the interview was short and sweet.

We did not talk about funding, but am hoping to get more information on that after a (hopeful) acceptance.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten interviews and acceptances! & remember, for better or worse, there is lots of news yet to come.
