j.hunt Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 to those that got into irvine: you mind posting your stats?
davolicious Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Penn State is setting up a phone call, which, based on prior posts, suggests an acceptance. Anyone who was accepted know if PSU has set a date for their campus visit?

davolicious Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Penn St.'s visit is the weekend of March 26. Good luck with your phone call! Thanks for the heads up! Sadly, that's the same weekend of my MSS presentation, and I think I may be under contract to present because of funding... I'll have to see what I can do.
Poj Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Anyone applying for PhD in Sociology at USC? I haven't heard anything back and when I checked my status, it's still in the first evaluation process. Anyone knows what it actually means? Thanks.
davolicious Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 In at Penn State, glad to hear they fund everybody who gets in. Apparently they are only expecting 8 or so in their cohort this year...
joops Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Nowhere yet, and it's really stressing me out. Getting a PhD in sociology is all I want to do with the rest of my life. All I want is to get in SOMEWHERE, because I'd be happy to go to any of the places where I applied.
aceslamdunk Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I just found this site today (though I wish I had earlier, I could have used the help and support while putting my applications together). But I've heard back from two schools and I've been accepted to both: Temple and University of Oklahoma (full funding). I'm still waiting for seven more schools though. But either way, I'm excited!

Hey! I got into Oklahoma with funding, too. Are you going to the visitation on 3/3-3/5?
Paul Allen Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Sweet Day in the Morning, I finally got an Acceptance email! In at UC San Diego! No info in this email about funding, they said the grad committee would email me with funding info as this was from the Soc. Dep. Chair. Wow, what sweet relief, now let's just hope they fund me, but either way, Sunny San Diego is looking better and better to me. Does anyone know if they fully fund their admits?

I also applied for the program but haven't heard anything back. It might mean that I will be rejected or waitlisted. Good luck with your funding
Paul Allen Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Congrats!!! I also applied for the program but haven't heard anything back. It might mean that I will be rejected or waitlisted. Good luck with your funding Thanks, and I don't know how to take the non-contacts when others have heard back, because there are people who have received acceptances after the first string of emails. It's cruel, kind of, if you knew there was a day for acceptances and didn't receive one you'd be able to move on. It's the uncertainty that's painful. Good Luck with your cycle, let's hope for more acceptances for everybody!
a.arcane Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I was also accepted to UCSD Sociology! Flummoxed. Flabbergasted. Other F words that mean confuzzled. Paul Allen-I noticed on the website they seem to discourage the notion that all would be fully funded. Anyway, I suspect we got the same email/PDF attachment with the same sparse information. Best wishes to all in acceptance purgatory. Sweet Day in the Morning, I finally got an Acceptance email! In at UC San Diego! Doctor Jimmy Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Hi everyone, I just stumbled upon this brilliant forum for the first time. I can add my list to the mix: Applied: Stanford, Duke, Princeton, Northwestern, Penn, Michigan, Purdue, Emory, Iowa, Rutgers, Yale, Kent State, Indiana I was accepted to Indiana, Purdue, and Iowa. I was rejected from Princeton. I went on Emory's visitation weekend (There were 16 "prospective students" and 5 slots). I have not heard anything from Emory since.

direshark Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I went on Emory's visitation weekend (There were 16 "prospective students" and 5 slots). I have not heard anything from Emory since. Suddenly, I'm quite nervous about my own upcoming visit weekend. 30% acceptance? That's close enough to the *general* admission rates for many grad schools...

Doctor Jimmy Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Ah, what are your areas of interests? And welcome to the forums! Social Psyc and Culture. Some of the programs are to focus on one or the other, some on both.
SocCard Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 That's awesome! I'm planning on going, but I still have to confirm my schedule by tomorrow. Are you going to the visitation weekend? Yeah, I just RSVP'd. Any idea on how many of us there will be?
aceslamdunk Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Yeah, I just RSVP'd. Any idea on how many of us there will be? Honestly, I have no clue. This'll be my first visit somewhere, so I'm kind of nervous. Excited, but nervous. I'm glad that someone else will also be going for Sociology though. I'd feel more nervous if it were just me...
SocCard Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Got into Old Dominion (Criminology) with full funding!
Salsero22 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Got into University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC)
Nina Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Hi guys.. I know this is a bit random, but a grad coordinator from Northwestern emailed me and asked my "current mailing address." I asked if she could inform me on my admission status, and she just told me that i will need to check the website for that.. Do you think this is a good sign? i mean, why would they ask my mailing address if they were gonna reject me?
