I Paint Faces Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 From looking at other topics it seems like the next few weeks will be a time to start hearing about interviews as well as some early acceptances and rejections. It also seems that many of you are like me, checking this forum at 4am on a Sunday as if people have actually heard and posted new information since the last time I checked at midnight. SO, I figured lets just put it all right here so we can easily tell what's going on/if others are getting interviews and we are not etc. So far I've heard NOTHING from anywhere: Yale Tyler American UConn SMFA U Washington Eastern Michigan University Cranbrook New York Academy of Art U Mass Dartmouth Art Institute of Boston
zaquon Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Yesterday I got an email from SMFA..it was just a weekly email blast about this weeks activites meant for current students. Wonder how I got on that list.. What a fracking tease!
vermillion Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I'm supposed to hear back from UC Davis this coming Monday, and I'm so nervous, haven't heard anything from Tyler or Rutgers. For those applying to Tyler, is there any way of checking your application status online?
vermillion Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Scratch what I said earlier, I just got a call from UC Davis saying I was admitted, I'm so excited. Now I don't have to worry about not getting in any place!

So Far I've heard back from UCSB (accepted - photography), and a friend has heard back from SAIC (accepted - performance)

So Far I've heard back from UCSB (accepted - photography), and a friend has heard back from SAIC (accepted - performance) Did you receive the email stating that they were looking over your application, I got one saying this and that I could find out the status on the 7th but I ended up getting a call today. Congrats on UCSB btw.

Congrats on UCSB btw. Thanks, and no, I emailed Victoria and she said: "Please go to your Embark Account to see if anything has been posted. We have admitted some and have wait listed some. The faculty will me making more decisions in a week or two" Hope that doesn't mean they have admitted who they are going to admit I never did get an email saying that my application was being reviewed.

Hmm, well when I checked into Embark it didn't really say anything about me being admitted either, maybe they haven't gotten to your application yet or maybe they do painters first or something, it ain't over yet

If the grad coordinator says it aint over, it aint over in most cases. There is hundreds of apps to go through, even if they split them up, I'm sure all the depts meet at different times and whatnot.
I Paint Faces Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 I'm not sure how i feel about hearing from Yale on a Friday night... Oh well I know being rejected that I have 97% of you in the same boat and I agree with what other people are saying, it's not bad being the first rejection with such a low acceptance rate, i just hope I don't have more!
sarah J Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) hi all so, me and "vermillion" might be classmates, depending on what happens!! I also heard back from davis recently (admitted with aid via phone/email) and from tyler a couple weeks ago (interview for sculpture).. I talked to Jude on the phone and lost my voice beforehand! hah! i think it went ok though, even with my cold...who knows. Davis offered some funding but I am confused about exactly how much it will be. i guess i will talk to them later. Still waiting on the rest ( VCU, hunter, Carnegie Mellon, UCLA, USC) I imagine I will get some rejections too.. wozas it moves fast. Now I get to figure out funding crazies. and make decisions! its going to be hard, i bet. Does anyone know how much federal aid is possible? Say, if you are super broke like me and probably qualify for the maximum? also, just a strategy on my part- I went on a meditation retreat after finishing my apps. I would highly recommend this, or some other kind of vacation ...it was a great way to keep myself positive and keep from freaking out. I hope we can all manage!! Edited February 7, 2011 by sarah J
I Paint Faces Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Congrats on the acceptance and the interviews! That must feel so nice to be getting some positive answers so soon. I think with federal aid its tricky whether they take your parent's money into account or not. My issue is that I want to be independant and not have my parents help me out, but then I just will have a boat load of high-interest loans... What a genius idea on the vacation thing. I wish I had money because I would fly to England and visit my friend and hide there til I know where I'm going, if anywhere, next year. Does anyone know how much federal aid is possible? Yeah! at the retreat I met another girl who is applying for an MFA in dance.. she was even smarter, and is going to BALI soon for a traditional dance residency while she waits it out. Droooooooolll.... ; ) Edited February 7, 2011 by sarah J
hullo Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Does anyone know how much federal aid is possible? Say, if you are super broke like me and probably qualify for the maximum? Just make sure you fill out a FAFSA. It'll provide an EFC ('Expected Family Contribution', a misnomer if you're financing your education yourself) and that's what schools will look at, theoretically providing aid to cover what you can't (though 'aid' includes loans). There are also independent scholarships you can look into, like the Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts award, but it seems a lot of deadlines are near or passed (as in this case). Also be aware of FAFSA guidelines–if you're under the age of 24, it doesn't matter if you live independently or not, they take your parents income into consideration which can end up hurting you (if they make a lot). Most schools provide grants and scholarships and some have assistantships and fellowships that include full or partial tuition remission plus stipend (such as Rutgers and Tyler). Good luck–figuring out money will be the next headache is this very long and exhausting process!
vermillion Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Congrats! Good to see other Davis people! hi all so, me and "vermillion" might be classmates, depending on what happens!! I Paint Faces Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 I did get an email from Cranbrook today saying that they have all of my materials (well my application) and so I'm hoping that means they will be reviewing materials this week!!!
inscho Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I posted this in another thread, but I'm posting it here for easy searching for next year's applicants. I was notified for a Yale interview in painting 02/04/10.
evillr Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Interview for Yale Graphic Design (2 year), also notified 2/4/11.
L333makes Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Interview at PennDesign (despite the fact that they told me that they don't conduct finalist interviews?!?). Notice via email this evening, scheduled for Monday, Feb 14th.
caraa Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Interview at PennDesign (despite the fact that they told me that they don't conduct finalist interviews?!?). Notice via email this evening, scheduled for Monday, Feb 14th. Congrats!!! I applied there too...wondering if I'll hear from them anytime soon. Is it an in-person interview? Did they give you any indication of why they are doing the interview despite what they say about not doing them?
I Paint Faces Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 So congrats everyone who has interviews so far, and I suggest to everyone else to limit yourself to checking for answers one or 2 times a day, it really has chilled me out (ok so I went to a funeral today which was distracting obviously (no one super close to me, but draining all the same)). I heard today from UMASS, Dartmouth (2/9/2011) and they want an interview! I'm not sure if anyone else is actually applying there or has heard anything about it but I'd love any feedback and am just relieved at least a tad bit. Now I'm just nervous about interviewing (excited, but not my forte). P.S. I only made this topic to try to clarify "here are my responses" VS FREAK-out thread which I saw as more generalized ranting, but if this topic is utterly useless and everyone feels like they have to repeat information between the two we can bail on this Payne 1

For those applying to Tyler, is there any way of checking your application status online? For Tyler, you can check your Temple application to see what materials are in and your status. Go here and then follow the link for the 'banner application' and plug in your ID and PIN. I think most programs require interviews, but it sounds like only GAID and Sculpture applicants have been notified so far. Good luck!
NFP Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Its good to have a more specialised topic for when prospective grads get news, thanks. I've been offered an interview with SFAI next week, 16 Feb. MFA Printmaking. A positive day for me. Have also applied to CCA and SAIC and hope for some news from these 2 soon. wannaknow Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 @Lisad333 what did the email say exactly? if you dont mind me asking? Did they indicate they were conducting a number of interviews?
