I need to temper my craziness. Do schools ever send out admissions notifications (emails or phone calls) on weekends and/or in the hours between 5pm and 9am (in the school's time zone)?

Some do. Applicants have received emails or calls from profs on weekends or in the evenings or even at night. I would imagine though that standard system responses will come during working hours.

I got a weekend acceptance and I knew several people my year who got evening acceptances. Let's face it, you'll never be able to temper the insanity unless you get into your dream school. :P

Thanks! I guess my anxiety won't be all that diminished this weekend, then. haha

I got an e-mail from a professor at 11.30 pm on a Saturday telling me I was in!

Sweet, congrats!

I got my phone acceptance during business hours, but my interview request in an email sent at 8:30 PM for the next day. So yes it is definitely possible to get news outside of the typical 9 - 5 especially if professors are making the contact.

All of the phone calls for my MA acceptances two years ago came in the later evening. I am guessing that some profs take the contact information home and make calls from there.

The school I ended up going to called me at about 7:30pm...while my friends and I were at the beer store stocking up for a party. Needless to say, I felt very classy! (Thankfully, the professor did not hear the sound of clinking bottles and/or change her mind) :)

I was notified of my status on a wait list at 8:49am on a Saturday.

They only give weekend responses to people they are unlikely to give funding to. Often its because many universities are locked into "off-peak" contracts for various forms of communication (mail, phones, email....) and they save money this way.

Dear Mike,

Again, you're a peach! We know the concept of trolling requires fallacy, but you're really just coming off like an idiot. At least this one is more entertaining than your Chuck Norris comment, however.

Any lurkers or gullibles out there, this statement is bogus.

Thanks for the smiles Mike!

Sincerely,

the Grad Cafe.

Thanks for the clarification MoJingly. I thought his post was utter rubbish, but I wasn't aware he's been trolling the forums.

Yeah, he had half a dozen posts on half a dozen threads, all of this caliber. I banned him. :-)

My weekend notification was an acceptance with full funding, so its clear he's full of BS anyway.

Since I originally posted this, I received a wait-list notification at 1:00 AM on a Tuesday morning in the school's timezone.

Seems anything is possible!
