Anyone going to claim the Notre Dame admit? I'm curious as to sub-field and what not. It's kind of strange to have just one result posted, isn't it?

I've been waiting for someone to claim it too! Hopefully it's not a fluke, I've been staring at my phone all afternoon.

Don't be greedy. You already have an acceptance to Northwestern, while all I have is a likely rejection from SUNY Buffalo. If you GET that phone call, you have to give one of them to me. :)

Those aren't mine, but I applied to Notre Dame and was accepted back in 2007. I didn't take the offer (long story. . coulda' shoula' woulda') BUT I can tell you that I was called about this time of the month and the call included funding details. It was very generous (over $20K and $4-5K for summer work, no teaching until 2nd or 3rd year). I don't know (since I wasn't on grad cafe at the time) if the calls were staggered. The visiting weekend at that time was early March-ish, if I remember correctly. Anyway, best of luck to those of you waiting to hear!

Oh my goodness! Why didn't you go??

Ah to be young again ;) Actually, my partner (who was applying for law school at the same time) didn't get in there. The only place things matched up was Chicago, but I was referred to the MA program with some funding instead of admitted to the Ph.D. In the interest of our relationship, we both turned down the place we wanted to go to be together. While I kick myself sometimes since I'd be graduating with my Ph.D. right about the time I now will be starting it, I did marry him. . .so that makes it feel all better :) Anyway, hope you get in. I seemed like a great program, especially for medievalists and early modernists.

anyone else puzzled by the ND listings on the results page? anyone care to clarify?

I am puzzled by the fact that there's no rejection posted yet on my online app. I'm guessing this is because I'm at the caboose of the alphabet.

I don't know about this rejection-by-alphabetical-order theory that seems to have developed in the Duke thread. My last name is "D" and my ND online application has not been updated either.

On the results page we have one acceptance via phone and one rejection via website. Has anyone else checked the website for rejection? Mine hasn't changed since I submitted my app.

I'm in the O's, and my web status hasn't changed at all.

I'm a B, and there has been no change to my status. I really want a screen cap or something of what that ApplyYourself page will look like when my decision is finally available.

The admit is mine! They called yesterday--apparently there will be an accepted students event March 6-8.

(I'm an external candidate, currently enrolled in the Medieval Studies MA at Fordham. Area is, unsurprisingly, medieval lit.)

I'll start by apologizing. I placed the rejection on the results page, by way of a mistake I made on the computer. I applied to ND last year, and at the bottom of the online application, there is an e-letter (mine is in the form of a rejection). Here is the tricky part: the date on the e-letter digitally changes according to the day you open it (so if you opened it today it would say Feb. 11, 2011). Becuase I have several applications going with different schools and I don't like to use the same password for every account, I had saved my ND password automatically, and thus logged into last year's application, thus seeing last year's rejection leter dated for this year (and last year's was initially sent March 11, if that helps).

I hope that makes sense. I had actually just posted different information but went to check my account to make sure. I am extremely sorry to cause any anxiety or confusion. Next time I think I get rejected, I'll wait and make sure it's for real. And if you are still confused, in essence I am saying THERE IS NO REJECTION, I MADE A MISTAKE.

Best of luck to all of you, and much peace as well.

Is that rejection on the results board bogus?

I'm beginning to think it is.

You know, I thought that might be the case as I applied to ND last year as well. A few weeks ago I checked last year's app and encountered that tricky date change on the letter as well.

If you're following along at home, I think all of the initial admits are out--the dept secretary already sent a mass email inviting us to the admissions weekend.

Sorry... :/

It looks like there was a new admit to the literature track today. I know that the incoming PhD cohort will be small, but it's possible that there are still one or two slots left open. Keep hope alive.

But aren't English and Literature separate tracks? Alas, I don't have much hope of a Notre Dame phd at this point....

You're right; my mistake. The PhD in Literature track is part of an interdisciplinary program.

Does anyone know how many applicants the English program admits? Three? Ten? I suppose that there is still the possibility of a waiting list, but it does appear that the first round of acceptances is just about finished.

I really hope I'm not stealing this person's thunder (as though they would ever sign on to gradcafe and participate amongst the anxious crowd of rabble ;)) but, a fellow student of mine just received an email from Notre Dame for an interview within the next few weeks. I am not at liberty to reveal the email this person forwarded, but it does say something to the effect that the admission committee has completed their review of applicants. There are no numbers or anything indicating size of accepted class.

Hope that helps!

Congratulations to you! Do you know, just out of curiosity, how many medieval spots were available? I'm still hanging on to hope by a thread. . . .

Weren't they supposed to finalize the rejects and wait lists at the end of last week?

I know it's a bit pointless, but I really want that final confirmation that I can rule them out...

I don't know how that works, because I guess that theoretically, all 12 people on the interview list could turn them down and then they would have to choose more? My interview is next weekend, and I think they'll wait until all the interviews are in before they can decide who actually gets the packages.

From what I've seen around here, they're starting to respond way earlier than last year.
