Applications are in. The deed is done - but could it have been done better?

I'm constantly running over this in my head. What niggling little detail could have nudged my application package over the other guy's? Like, maybe if I'd have included the names of my fish, Gődel and Plato, they'd have decided that I'm the right sort of person for the program.

So, what are the little things you waffled on including? Or the silly things of questionable relevance?

The year I studied abroad in France during my undergrad, I made a pilgrimage to the grave of Emile Durkheim.

He's a good listener.

How about something that I included but regretted later? I told them I have eleven siblings because I thought it might be a good way to stand out. Then I realized that many of the stigmas/stereotypes about large families probably would not serve me well in a grad school application. Oh well.

I probably should have revised my personal statements several more times.

However, I reviewed the personal statement I sent into a school that invited me to an interview and I thought my personal statement was awful. So, I don't think there is anyway to predict what would have helped or hurt my chances.

My Star Fox 64 high score. My Neopets' names. My experience as head of the Holy Empire of Shadora (http://www.nationstates.net/). My Spelling Bee championships. A portfolio including my Beanie Baby and Polly Pocket collections. My Myers-Briggs type (INTJ). My Mario Kart ghost data.

DAMN.

A photo - nay, a video - of me in period clothing doing Viking combat demonstrations. Photos of my Old Norse and Irish tattoos (yes plural). That I watched the sun set through the gap in the hills at Drombeg Stone Circle at the winter solstice. That I walked seven miles to see an early Manx church site, and almost nine for a Norman castle. That I poured out a bottle of Skullsplitter Ale into the Stromness harbor under the Northern Lights to honor the landvættir (nature-spirits) of Orkney. That I've watched the Secret of Kells like a gazillion times :)

I'm totally not even in your field but I think this is awesome. Norse mythology/religion/folklore/history is simply fascinating. /Minor folkloregasm

On topic: That I love folklore, backpacked around Japan while doing my masters portfolio, and even though I talk a little funny and am learning disabled it doesn't impact my abilities.
