ppazaza Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 DOE CSGF = Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship. I wonder if anyone here has got an early notification of CSGF award. Also if there's any former recipient of this award here, it would be great if you can tell us when you were notified from Krell. Keep biting my nails...
Awexome Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I'm waiting for this as well. Has anyone heard anything? The website says mid to late March so it seems possible that people will start hearing pretty soon if not already.

I could well be wrong, but my guess is that you shouldn't hold your breath much before April.

Awexome Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I was accepted into the school for which I built my program of study - is that something I should contact them about to improve my chances, or does it not matter at all?

I have no idea since I am currently a grad student. Why don't you call Krell and ask them? It would be great if you can further ask them when we will be notified.
Awexome Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 They said they are currently reviewing applications this week, and we could expect to hear back sometime next week.
husky Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 They said they are currently reviewing applications this week, and we could expect to hear back sometime next week. I'm getting nervous. Winning is such a long shot; but I just can't help but hope.
Diego M Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 They said they are currently reviewing applications this week, and we could expect to hear back sometime next week. So should we call and tell them that we got accepted to the school where we built the program of study?!?!
kneipe2 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 It looks like last year they called the recipients of the DOE CSGF (but not the other people).
OUWx Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 As of today they've changed the notification date to mid-April. More waiting. Yay. "The deadline for the online submission was January 11, 2011. Everyone who submitted a complete application will be notified by mail whether they have been selected for a fellowship by mid April."

Everyone who submitted a complete application will be notified by mail whether they have been selected for a fellowship by mid April." Yup, if it is like last year I believe that the first round was notified when they pulled this stunt. They are given time to decide whether to accept or not - in the event that someone declines then the next highest is offered. Clearly it doesn't take long before all of the slots are filled. Mid-April notifications are then just a mass-reject email. (No guarantees, but as I said earlier its the same story most likely)
ppazaza Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 It might be wonderful if an awardee(if any) could post his glorious winning news here, so that we can just stay calm, stop biting nails.

I put a lot of effort in to the application and feel that I'm definitely worth of receiving this fellowship. They could use some more applicable physical scientists in their list of current fellows, as well as more females!
Awexome Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 So I guess they lied to me over the phone...someone else want to call?
OUWx Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 So I guess they lied to me over the phone...someone else want to call? What number did you call? Hanmyo 1
Diego M Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I emailed them and they said by "mid April" we will know whether or not we're waitlisted, accepted or rejected. As in they won't sent out waves and keep people in limbo. The first email will tell you your status.

No one's been notified of any sort of status, even those who were finalists or what not. She said within the next week to week and a half, so by the end of next week. Nail biting time!
Hanmyo Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 So I guess they lied to me over the phone...someone else want to call? I second the question. "What number did you call?"

ppazaza Posted April 11, 2011 Author Posted April 11, 2011 Just right now seven members including me are reading this thread, and I guess we are crying.. OTL
kneipe2 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Did not get accepted. Good luck to those that did.
mewtwo Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Dear Mewtwo, Thank you for your interest in and your application to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Computational Science Graduate Fellowship program. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you a DOE CSGF fellowship. We received a large number of very highly qualified applications and we are able to fund only a small percentage of them. We hope that you will continue to pursue academic and career goals in the area of computational science. If your research interests include the need for high end computing tools and resources, you may want to visit the SciDAC Outreach center, a clearinghouse for activities and resources associated with the Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing program funded by the Department of Energy. You can find information about the SciDAC Outreach center here: https://outreach.scidac.gov/ Please note that some applicants win fellowships the second time they apply. If you maintain an interest in computational science/engineering and remain eligible for the fellowship please consider applying again in the future. We thank you for taking the time to apply to the program. With best regards, Mary Ann Leung, PhD DOE CSGF Program Manager mewtwo 1
