NDSEG fellowship

Dear NDSEG,

Tell us now!

Do you understand the gravity of the situation you have put yourself in? As the rule of the playground dictates...there are a LOT more of us than of you!

I hope that clears things up.

Sincerely,

Grad cafe members

It would have been nice when I called if the operator at least told me that she didn't know when they would be releasing decisions. Giving us a definite answer and then leaving that promise unfulfilled somehow doesn't surprise me though, considering we're dealing with a federal graduate fellowship program. :(

I'm curious to know why more people aren't posting...granted, we are much fewer than NSF, but still...

Yeah. Any notification will be sent to my gmail, so it would show up almost instantaneously after they send it...and I still don't have anything.

I got my notification at 3:33 EDT.

Thanks!

Was that an acceptance or not? (Sorry to pry - curious if they're doing one set before the others or mixing it)

Fortunately I got the award. However, my friend also got his notification at the same time but did not get the award.

Congratulations :D! And that gives the rest of us who have yet to receive any word some hope, though condolences to your friend ):

God, is this a real situation?

Should we believe that they are sending out emails now?

Haha, I feel you - don't quite want to believe it or I won't get ANYTHING done until I hear (second day in a row) Anyone want to C&P their letter for further proof?

It doesn't actually say. Here is the full text of the email they sent out:

Congratulations! You have been selected to receive a

2011 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG)

Fellowship. Your application was selected by the DoD from over

2,900 submitted applications that were received this year. The

NDSEG Fellowship is sponsored and funded by the Department of

Defense (DoD). NDSEG selections are made by the Air Force

Research Laboratory/Air Force Office of Scientific Research

(AFRL/AFOSR), the Office of Naval Research (ONR), the Army

Research Office (ARO), and the DoD High Performance Computing

Modernization Program Office (HPCMO). The American Society for

Engineering Education (ASEE) administers the NDSEG Fellowship.

The NDSEG Fellowship will cover your full tuition and required

fees for three years at any accredited U.S. college or university

that provides advanced degrees in science and engineering. In

addition, the NDSEG Fellowship will provide you with a yearly

stipend divided into twelve monthly payments. The first year's

stipend will be $30,500.00 divided into monthly payments of

$2,541.67; the second year's stipend will be $31,000.00

(monthly payments of $2,583.33); and the third year's stipend

will be $31,500.00 (monthly payments of $2,625.00). The offer of

the NDSEG Fellowship is conditional based upon the availability

of funds and the fellow's satisfactory progress towards an

advanced degree in science or engineering.

You have until Tuesday April 26, 2011 to accept or decline the

NDSEG Fellowship offer. In order to respond, please visit the

NDSEG award site at http://ndseg.asee.org/award and login using

your NDSEG application email/password.

This is a very prestigious fellowship and we hope you will accept

the offer. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact

ASEE at (202) 649-3831 or by email at NDSEG@asee.org. We will

be happy to assist you.

Congratulations once again!

Wow, assuming 200 awards, that's a <7% acceptance rate.

EDIT: I wonder if they're sending them out in batches by research category. Joe, were you and your friend in the same field?

Yes, we are both in cognitive neuroscience so it could very well be by category.

I applied to that category and have received no notification yet, so who knows.

Shoot, there goes that theory. What fields were our other two notify-ees in?
