Also, what about SFU? Why are Canadian Universities so so slow?! Someone help. Is anyone else also still waiting? Has anyone received a response from the political science departments of York or SFU??

I know my dept. has already posted rejections, and still nothing for me. "No decision yet". I think I'll contact them today to find out whether there's a waitlist and if I'm on it...

Here's a quick run-down of the York U programs that have notified students: Education Language, Culture And Teaching Social And Political Thought, MA Woman Studies, PhD Interdisciplinary Studies History, PhD Science And Technology Sociology Communication And Culture, MA Humanities English Geography Political Science, MA Cinema Psychology (Clinical/Developmental) To international students: Most posters are reporting that one only one international student per program is being accepted this year. The program I applied to is on the list, but I already knew that people reported hearing back on the results board. I don't want to bother anyone. I finally did. If you look at the rejections for York, most of them have been posted by international students. I'm trying to stay positive, but this is my second year applying as an international student to a Canadian school, and it just seems impossible. I wish we had equal opportunity, but such is life. [Note: I'm currently awaiting my Canadian permanent residence; I ended up applying for it after I submitted my application to York. When I saw they were only allowing one international student per department, I freaked out and I emailed my program to let them know that I wouldn't be needing a student visa. Let's see if that makes a difference this year. I'm pretty sure it still says "American/Visa required" on their system. I should be re-landing as a permanent resident in about a month, so hooray!] Either way, good luck to everybody, especially to international students applying to York. I know that at U of T it varied between departments this year, and also it varies from year to year. I'm hanging to the little hope I have left from not being rejected in the response email I got from the department.

I can totally relate, andiepants! It's really hard not to over analyze the results board. I've also formulated strange theories as to why York is taking so long... My last theory is that UoT and York share a lot of applicants, and UoT's Linguistics department notified about a month ago, so I'm thinking York U is waiting for all the shared applicants to decline (UoT is usually the first choice - but not in my case) so they can then notify the "b"-list. I'm going crazy here... I applied for this program back in November. I've been waiting for ages! prongster Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) I just called York and possibly left the most awkward voice mail in my life to inquire about the status of my application. Let's hope I hear back soon! I did send my application back in November, as well, but the deadline wasn't until February 1st (which was, as I understand it, an extended one). I received notification around February fourth that I would hear back in six to eight weeks, and it's now at the tail end of that (and that was a form letter, I believe, that's sent to all applying students). I've heard back from other programs, thankfully, with acceptances! But both of the schools I applied to in Toronto were high on my list of interest, and I don't want to make any rash decisions. York in particular is one where I went and met with some people I'd love to work with, as they can help foster my ideas and help them grow. I left the meetings feeling very encouraged, but fully aware that they wouldn't be in charge of the application process. But yeah, I want to know. I check my York myfile page several times a day, and people reported hearing back! But who knows? I only contacted this morning because of the sudden fear that mail from Canada to the US would take far longer than I'd prefer (as it ... has in the past). My mom has just tried to put a positive spin on the wait, "maybe they're waiting to gather funding for you". HA! let's hope! Was the Feb 1st deadline extended for all programs? I had no idea about that. It does add a little more explination as to why we haven't heard. Well it's the weekend now and no one will be calling on saturday or sunday- so let's all breath and attempt to have a stress free weekend!

I don't know! It might have been? I know it definitely was for mine, and when I considered a different program, they explained the deadline is usually extended to the end of January/Feb 1st because it was one where I was required to meet with the department before I sent along an application.

I guess they didn't get enough applicants. Asides from that case, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Mind you, I didn't look at all programs (there are a lot!), so who knows. Nooo idea, but the woman (who has been incredibly nice throughout this process—it's wonderful that they have such great people running these emails) said that they would send me an Email with an offer as soon as they heard back from some other people. I don't know what that indicates about where I stand, but I'm interpreting it as a reason to be optimistic! And that's exciting! Good luck. At least you can breathe easy this weekend.
