t_ruth Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Dude, if you're still interested then def. e-mail those schools and let them know about your fellowship. They may reverse their decisions - I know a couple of people that got into their top-choice schools after being rejected. You may feel like telling those departments where they can stuff their rejection letters, but don't take it too personally. Admissions committees make mistakes and obviously you were one of them. (Also, don't wait for the departments to see the list because it might be a while before it's posted - the NDSEG is announced in waves.) You can do this kind of surreptitiously by writing to your POIs at those schools with an email asking how you can improve your application for next year (and mention that you won the NDSEG and will be extending your Masters and using a year of the funding for that).
jeeves Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Why would they take down the 2008 list? I can think of no other reason except to screw with us... it must be terribly entertaining...
scigrad Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Most professors will take any student that comes with their own funding, and especially full funding.
hhog Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 You can also log into your ratings sheets now - they still aren't posted, but at least I'm not getting the "404 error" message anymore. This SUCKS.
spanglish Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Why would they take down the 2008 list? I can think of no other reason except to screw with us... it must be terribly entertaining... Or it could just be a glitch. I don't think that these people are outta get us. I mean, they're giving like 900 of us ~$120,000...
jeeves Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 You can also log into your ratings sheets now - they still aren't posted, but at least I'm not getting the "404 error" message anymore. This SUCKS. You can put anything in the login and password and you will get the same place... when we have ratings sheets, they give us new usernames and passwords.
aofthe1000days Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 There has to be something soon! According to Fastlane the pages get updated at 2AM (Not sure if this is Eastern). So I'm guessing that if there is no information there, I either didn't get the award, or it won't be posted until tomorrow...? This is so frustrating!

I think that refers to your application materials getting logged in. However, I've found that not to be entirely accurate. When I was applying, I was always checking to see when my references were submitted. It was almost instananeous; I didn't have to wait until 2am the next day...Or at least as I remember it.
BioC Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 There is never a good hacker around when you need one...
redeye Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Where can you see your ratings sheets? I don't see anything...
math123 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 You can put anything in the login and password and you will get the same place... when we have ratings sheets, they give us new usernames and passwords. huh? Valid observation on hhog's part. I think it's a good sign that things are rolling along.

math123 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Where can you see your ratings sheets? I don't see anything... You can't. If you applied last year, you were able to still log in to see your rating sheets for a while. Then a few weeks ago, the passwords didn't work anymore. Then yesterday the entire page disappeared. Now, it's back online.
BioC Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 The rating sheets have been like that at least since last Friday. I have been trying to access them as well and since Friday I've been getting the message "Access to NSF GRFP rating sheets is now closed. We will enable this application when this year's results are available. Thank you!" , so there is no change there. The only real change is the 2008 list thing...
caezar86 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I logged in to the rating sheets (https://www.nsfgrfp.org/ratingsheets/) by clicking the "Forgot my password" link. It sent an email, I had to change my password, and then it allowed me to login, but said rating sheets weren't available. I refreshed, and there it all was...seemingly official results and links (working links!) to 3 rating sheets. It didn't work a few times when I tried to check it again (just to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me), but now it seems to come up pretty consistently. Hope this works for other people! I promise this isn't a joke. Is this the first time you've applied, or had you been given a username before?

chickenandwaffles Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 It works! I didn't get it yea, it definitely works..they just shut it off.....i had 3 reviews...when i got to review 3, they shut it off and put this "Access to NSF GRFP rating sheets is now closed. We will enable this application when this year's results are available. Thank you! " one was iffy, the second was good, so dammit, the third one was the deal maker or breaker!!!
JMehl84 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 No way! I get this message: Access to NSF GRFP rating sheets is now closed. We will enable this application when this year's results are available. Thank you!

mechemems Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 yea between the time i went to the site and clicked forgot password they changed it...
math123 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 They probably figured out people were snooping around. I can't log on anymore, but I had only 2 review sheets and it said I was in the 70th percentile or less and was unsuccessful.

I tried the "forgot your password" trick and I still keep getting "Access to NSF GRFP rating sheets is now closed..." as well. I applied to Psych though.
skinkididoo Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 well at least this means that the results are basically ready...
