Timshel Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 6 SECTIONS? Yikes! Yeah, and I actually had another job. My husband is working on his Master's, so I've been trying to pick up the slack with money, so I taught 4 sections at the university, 2 additional sections at the local community college, and I worked part time at the university's writing center. I stopped working at the community college this year because something had to go.
runonsentence Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 For those struggling to grade more quickly: Audio feedback on essays. For me, it's all about the audio feedback. Minimal marginalia, then talk about what you're seeing overall. The 5 minutes I spend recording an audio track is still faster than trying to compose an end comment, for me.
perrykm2 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 The application process is so much more nerve-wracking and self-esteem destroying than I thought it would be.
ecritdansleau Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 The application process is so much more nerve-wracking and self-esteem destroying than I thought it would be. It really is--perhaps because it makes you question so many things you have done, are doing, and may or may not be able to do in the future based on the first two. I'm trying to keep a detached/unemotional head about things, but it's crazy how much my life is up in the air just as a result of this process, and it's impossible to not feel invested in it. And to imagine--it's not even February yet!
TripWillis Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 So it's November 9th and I'm thinking of swapping out two schools and finding a couple American Studies programs to apply to. ...yeah. ...I certainly am on the home stretch, but my home is in like fucking Russia at this point.
lolopixie Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Every time I have a great day of progress (I'm speaking of a really great day, not just the work that I do on a daily basis), I feel refreshed and on top of things for about 30 seconds. Then I think about everything that has to be done and I feel like it is just not going to happen. Slow and steady, slow and steady.
Timshel Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 I have sent the transcripts to all of my schools for 2 out of the 3 schools that I attended as an undergrad and graduate student. Blech. I mean, it's progress, but MAN, I have so much more to do!!!!!! Also, I need to advice. Two of my schools have December 1st deadlines, and those are two schools of the schools I put down to have sent my general and subject sent for free when my subject becomes available on November 25 (which was stupid because I totally bombed it and now they are going to see it when neither of them require it). My question is, is that cutting it too close? I noticed on one of the schools' website (I can't remember whose) that it said that it usually takes a few weeks for schools to get GRE scores once they have been requested to be sent. Is that true? Should I just go ahead and pay the money to send my general scores to those two schools since my general scores are ready to be on the safe side? Both schools seemed adamant about not receiving any info late.....
bdon19 Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 @Timshel, I'd say just contact the departments for the two schools that have December 1st deadlines. I haven't yet ordered subject test reports, but I know that my school with a 12/1 deadline (UT-Austin), says the following: "Because of the ETS testing and score release schedule, we will accept subject test scores after the deadline. You may send subject test scores to us through the end of January. We will not accept them after February 1 as we anticipate completing the first phase of our review process by then." I have a feeling many schools--especially those with early deadlines--will understand that scores will not necessarily be sent immediately. I know that your question is about general scores, but I'm sure if you send a quick e-mail or call up someone at these two schools, you can get a concrete answer--and know whether you can save your money or not!
lolopixie Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Scores are sent relatively quickly and electronically. They go to a designated email at the school (I learned this last year due to calling every school.to make sure they received the scores bc of the difference in my last name on the test). It is just a matter of getting them logged to your file. Send them, allow the couple business days, then if they haven't loaded to your app call the school to verify receipt. Every time I called last year, the school had the score even if it wasn't loaded to the file yet and they got it loaded there in that call.
Timshel Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 Well, my subject scores do not become available until the 25th, which is the day after Thanksgiving, so I am assuming that the next business day isn't until Monday, the 28th, which is only a few days before December 1st. I checked, and Emory lets up upload the student version until they receive the official, which will work for me, but Minnesota doesn't state whether or not they will accept them after the date. I can always email them tomorrow, but does anyone have any experience with Minnesota concerning whether or not they will accept the GRE score after their application deadline if it's late by a few days?
