upenn123 Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Hi yogimoney... if you do not mind, could you tell us know what your concentration is?
mwash Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Just got into Chicago! Full funding for five years!
poliscidude Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Just got into Chicago! Full funding for five years! How did you find out?
AllFiredUp Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Just got into Chicago! Full funding for five years! Congratulations. You are part of a rareified few...
mwash Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 They sent me an e-mail about an hour ago. I don't know much about any of these schools though. Maybe you all can help me out. I do theories of IR and security, so is Chicago the best choice for me at this point?

AllFiredUp Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 So you say you don't know much about these schools...yet you applied to them AND got in? lol
plisar Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 So you say you don't know much about these schools...yet you applied to them AND got in? Isnt Chicago known for advanced formal theory?
PoliSci Guy Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 thats exactly what i thought.. lol Me too! Hard to believe
rlayla Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I did poli sci undergrad at Uchicago, so if you have any questions about specific profs or the school in general, feel free to PM me.
mwash Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I researched their programs when I applied, but in terms of prestige, job-placement, and quality of education, I really don't know much. Lately I've been looking at rankings and talking with professors, but I get a lot of mixed feedback. Just wanted the opinions of some of the veterans on this board. And I am basically a realist.

yogimoney Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Hi yogimoney... if you do not mind, could you tell us know what your concentration is? Hi Upenn, I applied in Comparative to some and Political Economy to others...for me the differences between subfields are fairly elusive.
montage Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 What's your subfield? I applied as comparative, but I want to switch to methods...
poliscidude Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 So....anyone know if Chicago sends out notices in waves? Otherwise I guess I'm out of running. Still haven't heard definitively from UVA either. grrrrrr
spark25 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 So....anyone know if Chicago sends out notices in waves? Otherwise I guess I'm out of running. Still haven't heard definitively from UVA either. grrrrrr If they have contacted their waitlist students already, I am assuming they are done then. But then again, I can be wrong.
catchermiscount Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Wow, kind of a busy day that felt slow. Congrats to the Penn and Chicago people! Serious high fives going around.
jimcompx Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Dear mwash, Of your accepted list (Chicago, Duke, UCSD, Berkeley) Chicago is, I believe, leaning more towards constructivist work as of late, although some have told me that their program is kind of in disarray. I talked to some students there last year who had some real horror stories. UCSD has a very good reputation as a stats oriented comparative school, as does Duke and Berkeley. As far pursuing a realist research agenda, I would think that Duke would be the best one. Good luck!
