sociology27 Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 Anybody want to claim the Duke one?
Chuck Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 And I was expecting Wisconsin to come out of the closet today. Bah!
socscholar Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Duke! I got accepted, but that post wasn't me... yeeee!!
jenjenjen Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Duke! I got accepted, but that post wasn't me... yeeee!! Congrats!! Great school How did you hear?
hobokennojokin Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 The first duke post aka "vindication and relief" was from me. Super excited. Received an email from from Duke University Graduate School notifying me to check my status by logging in with my ID and PIN. Not a message from the DGS or a POI but an acceptance nonetheless! Likely to hear from them in the coming days I imagine
Chuck Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Duke! I got accepted, but that post wasn't me... yeeee!! god!!!! i am accepted by maryland park!!!! official letter on finance will be sent later. oh my god oh my god . i am as happy as a dog.....sorry....... I heard from Notre Dame today; I got an invite to 'Visit Day' Congrats to everyone who received good news today! I hope you're out celebrating right now!
SocHope Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I just sent test emails to the accounts I listed on my applications, because you know...what if something got lost in the "mail"! Officially.Need.To.Stop.NOW.
sciencegirl Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 @SocHope... lol.. that is totally obsessive... and probably not out of the realm of reality for many of us right now!
Supernovasky Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Hahahaha.... SocHope, I am feeling the same way right now have now reached BEYOND the realm of obsessive.
sociologyplease Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Congrats to everyone who was accepted today!
odeta Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Anybody want to claim the Duke one? I also received am email from Duke's Grad Web account today, but it's just a normal application status email starting with "****This message will be sent on a regular basis, whether your application is complete or not, until you have received a final decision on your application. If you have already received an admissions decision letter from Duke University Graduate School, please disregard this message.****", so I think I am rejected ~disappointed, one of my dream school~ and congrats to those who got in~
socscholar Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Something to consider when choosing a program.... http://orgtheory.wordpress.com/2012/02/02/cool-language-map-of-the-day/
ThisSlumgullionIsSoVapid Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Something to consider when choosing a program.... http://orgtheory.wor...map-of-the-day/ haha it gets under my skin whenever I hear someone refer to it as "Pop" just doesn't sound right
SocHope Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Oddly enough, looking at the map makes me feel provincial for using "soda." Then again, maybe the people who responded to that survey just had very, very strong opinions about what soda ought to be called. "It's tonic, gol' durn it!"
giacomo Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 tomorrow will be a big day. i can sense it. my hear is pounding.
schooliscool Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I also received am email from Duke's Grad Web account today, but it's just a normal application status email starting with "****This message will be sent on a regular basis, whether your application is complete or not, until you have received a final decision on your application. I would kind of be surprised if I got rejected considering my contact with a POI (I won't get into the details). That said, I've come to terms with a rejection to save myself some disappointment. I may be a little too critical of myself, but I think I could have written a much better SOP, and my quant skills are not really reflected in any number or grade, but in my 5 years in research. We'll find out soon enough!
MashaMashaMasha Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I got the same email today. I'm in the same boat with my quant skills. Hoping that 5 years out, all in research and data analysis, will make up for that one stats grade where I was too arrogant to come to class :-/
wannabeaphd Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I don't know if it helps or hurts, but I have it on good info (personal contact in the SOC dept) that USC has made it's choices and is busy setting up funding for the 10 people they accepted this year! It's more acceptances than in the last couple of years, so good luck all!
sociology27 Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 On the USC front, does that mean that they've notified people already? Or are they securing funding before letting anybody know? I like USC a lot, so if you could answer this I'd appreciate it.
wannabeaphd Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 They wait to secure funding. Shouldn't be too long now though!
Supernovasky Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Think we get some news today? I think Washington and Ann Arbor are pretty close to being ready, and UC-Boulder is going to be on the 14th/15th
sociologyplease Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I don't think any news is coming today, I'm thinking we'll have to wait until next week
MashaMashaMasha Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I think the grad program folks at UW - Seattle generally don't work on Fridays, so we may not hear anything today.
RefurbedScientist Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Anyone heard anything about interviews at Harvard this year? According to the results survey, it looks like interview invitations happened around this time last year. Also, wannabeaphd, I see you've been accepted to Irvine. Congrats! Not sure if you already posted elsewhere in this or other threads, but when did you hear and from whom? That is, if you don't mind sharing.
SocHope Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I don't think any news is coming today, I'm thinking we'll have to wait until next week Gol' durn it.
