Who are you and what kind of email was it? From department chair? Grad coordinator? Prospective advisor? Generic Email, personalized?

God, I really want to hear from berkeley!!!

This is really terrible. I'm guessing someone emailed the department and posted on results.

I'm going to be sick all week hoping for some news.

I am freaking out as well. I wish I had not seen that post about Berkeley because now there's absolutely nothing I can do but hit the refresh button on my email application. It's a good thing that the forums came back online though.

I hope the person who got accepted shows up here soon and tells us how he got notified.

BTW, Anyone knows typically how many people apply to Sociology at Berkeley and how many get accepted?

I got the email, and am super excited right now. This was definitely personalized, and I am pretty sure they are not sending out all the emails at once, so don't be too worried.

OH FUCKING SHIT THANK YOU! WHo was it from?

usually somewhere around 400--less than 40 admitted. Last year it was like 38 admitted, something like that. 10% acceptance.

10%? That's not that bad! Thanks for that piece of info. I think I have a pretty strong application but not having been accepted to UCLA (presumably) has really destroyed my morale over the weekend :( (even if I didn't really want to go there)

Migration dude did--he sent me a PM saying he received a personalized email from a prof, not a mass acceptance.

I looked through the archives and saw that admits are usually spread out over a couple days. Since migrationdude's was so personalized, i'm guessing they are taking some time, perhaps sending emails from possible advisors or various people on the adcom.

I think we're ok, and they just haven't got around to everyone.

Hi everyone, I would strongly plead for patience, as the previous poster suggested. I'm not sure if it's wise of me at this point to say more about the offer. This is a public forum after all. Besides, does it really make a difference to know what form the acceptances/rejections come in? I am confident there will be more acceptances within the next few days, so good luck to everyone!

That is taken right off of the FAQ from Berkeley's Soc Dept website. It includes all applicants. They don't divide up their stats by domestic and int'l

For anyone who's heard, did the admit letter/phone call mention anything about a recruitment weekend? If so, when and will they pay travel expenses? I've heard that a lot of the big state schools are cutting back this year, wondering if Berkeley will do the same

I think it's really weird that I have heard of no one else getting a notice of admision from Berkeley. I know at least 5 other people who applied there and they haven't heard anything either. I wonder if every professor is writing a personal letter (which would justify the letters being sent so sparsely).

It was pretty generic: congratulations, nominated for fellowship, part of 5 years of support, will receive an invitation for Graduate Admissions and the University's Diversity weekend, etc... But I'm still super excited!

CONGRATS!!!

But, NOOOOO!!! I'm so sad!

So, are neutiquamerro and migrationdude the only ones who've heard from Berkeley? If they're doing anything close to 40 offers (which they might not be - I got the impression that UNC and Harvard are really cutting back) this year and considering the number on this board who've probably applied, I'd say that there's still plenty of offers to come (although perhaps not with fellowship support).
