capacity4wonder Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 fedupofthewait -- i feel your pain. i still haven't heard back, but i keep seeing that others have.
rainy_day Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) Has anyone checked the status on their application? Mine was changed today to "Under Committee Review - 2/3/12." I had assumed I had been rejected since I hadn't heard anything yet, but why wouldn't they just update my status to "rejected" and/or why bother to update it at all? I'm wondering (unrealistically hoping) if this means I'm maybe being considered for waitlist? What does your status says? Edited February 3, 2012 by rainy_day
capacity4wonder Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 My status on the Buffalo grad application site just changed to "Under Committee Review - 02/03/2012" Hasn't it been under committee review since December? Why now, and why without having heard from them?" It will be a long weekend not knowing! :-/ rainy_day 1
capacity4wonder Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 wow, @rainy_day, you and i posted basically the same question at the same time....
capacity4wonder Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Best wishes, @rainy_day!!!! Good luck!
rainy_day Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 wow, @rainy_day, you and i posted basically the same question at the same time.... Hahah! Great minds & all... Best wishes to you, too! It looks like some email rejections went out today, so maybe this *is* potentially good news? Ugh,being hopeful is more terrifying that being despondent! Good luck to you!!!
Kelkel Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I'm in history, but we figured this out: The people whose status changed to under review got rejected (I got a letter the dated the same day as the status change). Those whose status said "not reviewed" got acceptances. I'm not sure if it'll be the same for y'all though. rainy_day 1

You just saved me a weekend of getting my hopes up, which would have only made things much, much worse. I really appreciate you sharing this info. Good luck to you, Kelkel. From your signature, Miami clearly has better weather than Buffalo.

I really appreciate you sharing this info. Good luck to you, Kelkel. From your signature, Miami clearly has better weather than Buffalo. Hahah thanks! It's Miami of Ohio so it won't be as good as you think, but honestly I think most places are better than Buffalo!
perrykm2 Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 I went to Miami of Ohio for undergrad. One winter, I fell into a snow drift and had to dig myself out and go to the hospital. Those winds from Canada can really get you. Julianne Pigoon 1
Timshel Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Mine also says under committee review 2/2/12. I guess that's the kiss of death.
capacity4wonder Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 someone from history got an acceptance with a presidential nomination AFTER we found out that the remaining people would be rejections. i wonder what that means? the fact that nobody has posted a complete rejection (as opposed to a rejection-but-considered-for-MA) has me assuming that if we haven't heard, we are indeed rejected. but the developments with the history applicants confused me. so, if any of you get a letter, will you post that you did and also tell us what your UB status says? that way the others will know about when to expect something in the mail.
capacity4wonder Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 well, i've messaged the person who received a presidential fellowship nomination in History to see what her status is. Buffalo has a very weird system!

As I wrote before, I'm being considered for the Master's. I just checked my application, and under the box in the bottom right where it says "Acceptance Confirmed," there is "NA." Not applicable? Not accepted? Nice ass? Nifty aeroplane? Hope that helps at least as far as the online application is concerned. I haven't gotten anything in the mail, however. My partner is a second‒round PhD applicant for philosophy and if there's anything I know about departmental similarity it is that there is none. I'm not entirely sure how much you'll learn from the history department in regard to the English department's own recherché behaviors. I hope you do make some sense out of this madness, however. I really do. Edited February 6, 2012 by Julianne Pigoon
capacity4wonder Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 yeah, i think everyone's says "NA" for acceptance confirmed (maybe I'm wrong, though). but on the left-hand side where it says "application status," mine says "under committee review" instead of "application complete." i'm hoping that other people whose status was changed to "under committee review" get good news rather than bad, because julianne, you're right--departments have their own procedures (and besides, someone got good news in that other department anyway) i'm okay with being rejected--i'd just like to know! haha
capacity4wonder Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 okay--the person who received an acceptance after everyone else did not have her status change, so things look exactly like @kelkel said.
TripWillis Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I just found out I got accepted to the American Studies program at Buffalo, so maybe I'll see some of y'all there! I'm sure that because of the interdisciplinary nature of the program I'll wind up in a literature course or two. Wow, this is the first program I've gotten ANY notification from, so it's such a relief to have an acceptance come in before any rejections. Here's hoping for the other 9 apps so I have choices! Whew! I just needed one, so the pressure is off... yeesh. JeremiahParadise 1
Kelkel Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 For history, two of us were notified of rejections before the two acceptances were notifitied. The two rejecteds (this sounds better than rejects hah) had their status changed on the website. The accepteds did not. Rejecteds were notified by the department, while the accepteds were notified via graduate school because of their fellowship. Like I said, I don't know if it works the same for different departments, but that's how it went with us.

capacity4wonder Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Congrats, TripWillis! I bet our studies overlap quite a bit. TripWillis 1
TripWillis Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Congrats, TripWillis! That's so exciting! Here's to hoping my first notification is a good one! hahaha Totally! I'm really pulling for all us regulars -- you, timshel, cquin, grunty, the whole gang. I'll be sad if we don't all get in somewhere. bdon19 1
Timshel Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Totally! I'm really pulling for all us regulars -- you, timshel, cquin, grunty, the whole gang. I'll be sad if we don't all get in somewhere. I am very happy for you, Trip. I wish I had an acceptance so I could feel a little more secure. I have one official rejection, and two assumed. I didn't get interviewed at Emory, which is basically a rejection, and I have heard nothing from Buffalo, so I am assuming that is a rejection. And for what it's worth, my Buffalo status says NA and it says Under committee review.
Julianne Pigoon Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Congratulations, TripWillis! Jealous! Even if I did get accepted to the MA, I doubt I would go. For many reasons. But for all of you who are going, best of luck! :]! TripWillis 1
TripWillis Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Thanks to everyone! I think I'm just going to relish not going 0/10 before I start worrying about funding... which I haven't heard anything about yet. That's definitely still a huge outlying factor.
