dazedandbemused Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Gee, I dinĀ“t know about those people. I had to Google them. Well, it bothers me that the April 15th deadline has passed and I have not heard from them since I applied. I'm in the same boat as you. I called them and they told me that the application was looked at, but they absolutely refused to give me any info either through phone or email. So yeah, I'm calling it a rejection.

But I think that a rejection on time would have been better than this.
ComeBackZinc Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) Perhaps email and ask? Edited April 16, 2012 by ComeBackZinc
Smokydog Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I have just sent this to Penn Sate: Dear Penn State Staff, Since applying last January, I have not heard from you. Now the April 15th deadline has passed and I suppose that by now I can be sure I was not admitted. I suppose that you have your reasons for that, specially with so many applicants. Nonetheless, it is very dissapointing for me to not even receive a formal refusal by email. I expected more from your Department when I decided to apply. At least because I payed my application fee. I just wanted to let you know my dissapointment in that matter. I hope you may consider to improve this aspect in a future. Regards, pelevinfan, user_name, Datatape and 1 other 2 2
user_name Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 has anyone thought of asking for your fee back, not for the money but out of principle? Datatape 1

dazedandbemused Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I'm with Phil Sparrow on this one; I don't know if that email is going to get you the best response. But user_name, I like you're idea. I think my application fee earned me, at the very least, a rejection letter! Also, on paper and addressed to me, not "Dear Applicant". pelevinfan 1
TripWillis Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I like you're idea. Oh dear; it's contagious! Sorry. Just kidding. lyonessrampant and WendyMoira 2
desaparecido Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 "Dear applicant" is the worst. Tactless. Or perhaps the second worst. I received a wait-list letter from a school (not Penn State) that reversed my first and last name, and spelled my first name wrong. I immediately emailed the school and took myself off the wait-list out of spite (and the fact that I received an acceptance from a more preferred program already).

You are right on that one! Thank you for the advice. Well, actually I got an apology from them so now I feel better.
